Since I've already been doing this for quite a number of people from this forum (and others) already, so might as well start a thread so that I won't need to keep clearing my inbox. :)

If anyone needs any help planning their Japan trips and needs some extra help in planning or answering any questions you may have, I can meet up with you to try to help you out.
That is, if you guys don't mind coming down to Yew Tee MRT area for my convenience.

This is more for people who are new to planning their own trip to Japan, and not really for those who are on group tours.

I cannot guarantee I will be able to answer your every question, but I will try to the best of my knowledge based on my previous trips to Japan.

Of course, if I've not been to a place before, then I won't be able to help much.

So anyway, here is a list of places I've been before, therefore which I think I would be able to be of some help:
- Hokkaido (Otaru, Sapporo, Asahikawa, Sounkyo onsen, Tomamu, Noboribetsu, Lake Toya, Hakodate)
- Tohoku (Hirosaki in Aomori, Aizu Wakamatsu)
- Kanto (Tokyo, Yokohama, Kawagoe in Saitama, Shibukawa, Kamakura)
- Chubu (Gotemba, Karuizawa, Nagano, Nagoya, Takayama, Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa)
- Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Wakayama, Ise, Nagahama, Kinosaki onsen, Himeji)
- Chugoku (Okayama, Kurashiki, Tottori, Miyajima, Hiroshima)
- Kyushu (Fukuoka, Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki, Yufuin, Moji-ko)

Alternatively, you can also check my hardwarezone thread to see the pics of my Japan trips or my travel blog. Am kinda slow in posting updates of my recent trips on my blog though. heh.
I have also compile a list of helpful links on my blog:
Go Away, Sam...: Japan F&E guide

I don't know much Japanese though so if you need help with Japanese words/phrases, then dimitri_can would be much better than I. (taiji over to dimitri_can) :)

Please bring along your trip itinerary and maybe a notepad for you to jot stuffs down.

Upcoming sessions:

Session #3 (For those going Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo)
Date: 19 Jan 2014 (Sunday)

Status:Cancelled.

Attendees for Session #3 (max 6 people):

Only this Sunday ?

When is your trip? Going which part of Japan?
I can meet on weekdays as well.
Just thought of offering for this weekend since most people don't work on sunday. Plus I know many people will be flying to Japan in the coming Dec.

Gosh...so nice of you.

I bumbled my way through Hokkaido and Tokyo, greatly helped by your guides and online resources.

Japan is definitely doable (and better) on your own, even without knowing Japanese, cos their system is so organised with English labels, even monster station Shinjuku is ok after a day's orientation.

Just need to train up leg muscles for lots of walking :s13:

Next stop - Osaka area but will go in Dec for autumn.

I enjoy chatting about Japan, so in a way, this helps me curb my crave for Japan in-between my trips. Heh. :)

Yes, Japan is better to go on your own as F&E due to the many online resources you can find when planning your trip. The japan-guide and hyperdia websites really helped me out alot with planning my trips.

Regarding Shinjuku station, that is 1 station in Japan where I can get lost at. Haha. Tried to find a short cut from north side of station to get to the south side without having to walk around the large station....but in the end I gave up and just walked around it. :s22:

Even though I eat alot on my Japan trips, but somehow I can still lose some weight, due to all the walking in Japan. Esp in Kyoto, I always end up walking alot in Kyoto.

Remember to go Kyoto for your autumn trip. Esp Kiyomizudera, it will be really lovely during autumn.

I also would like to thank you for your threads and posts for inspiring me to do a trip on my own! You see, I am an anime fangal and I did my trip more or less on my own to anime locations and taking trains and all! I find your posts extremely helpful in what to expect and my trip went smoothly and I cant wait to plan for another solitary trip on my own again!

Hi

I also like to thank you for the help you gave me in correcting my itinerary.
Your blog also gave me a lot of information on Japan and the beautiful photos. It was my first trip with my mum. She was apprehensive on going there since we don't speak Japanese.
Now she raved to her friends it is so easy to do free and easy in Japan and wants to go again.
I love the trains and taking pictures of the beautiful scenery. Will look forward to another planned trip to Japan

Sam your posts and blog more than you expected actually. I also recommended it to some of my colleagues who are planning to go Japan as well.

Oh! I am into quite a few animes actually! This trip, I went to Kansai, Chugoku and Shikkoku and then to Kantou region, on a merry-go-round trip all over the place thanks to my obsession with animes!

I actually had to designate Kansai/Chugoku region for my trip cos of the Naruto train in Okayama, I was still quite the Naruto fan I guess! I really enjoyed the train ride even though it was just 2 trains with Naruto decorated panels and exteriors and all. This train will end its run in 31st March 2014 so I had to take the train now.

I first went Kyoto for Hakuouki and Uchoten Kazoku and then to Otsukyo across Lake Biwa for Omi-Jinju for the karuta cards anime Chihayafuru. There is also a Chihayafuru train running during this season and I managed to take it. I then went Tottori for Free! and most of all, the sand dunes cos of Honey and Clover, an anime I really loved. I wanted to see the sand dunes for really a long long time and never had the chance to plan for the trip until now! Oh and I went to Naruto Whirlpool too, hahahaha they had a Great Naruto Bridge there, just like in the anime though different universe hur. Lastly, in Tokyo, I went Enoshima because of Slam Dunk and gosh, this is really one of my first anime series I gotten in!

Yes, I am a happy fangal thanks to my this trip and I cant wait to plan for more anime related journeys! Oh and thanks to your post, I went to Wakayama for the Kishi Stn! Tama-chan is a lazy lazy cat but I did managed to catch it awake for a while ^^

I went Tottori on my recent trip as well, have yet to post the pics though...getting lazy. Heh.

I am a fan of Slam dunk as well, I knew the story was based in Kanagawa but not too sure which part of Kanagawa. So it was Enoshima...will you be posting your pics up on this forum or blog? I would be interested to see. :)

Ohhh! I really enjoyed Tottori! I managed to squeeze in the beautiful rugged Uradome coast in the morning and the sand dunes in the afternoon to catch the sunset which is at 4plus, kinda early though cos it is early winter! And I really love the pear stuff in Tottori, I so wanna go back Tottori again! I will be back, really!

Slam Dunk is in Enoshima/Kamakura, I only happened to come upon this realisation when I saw a fren posted a pic of Enoshima with the Sea Candle looming behind Shonan beach! I went online to search and gotten the locations. The Enoden is the green tram that was featured in the anime, the train crossing in the OP too! And the Kanagawa Coastline with Enoshima and Sea Candle also in the manga.

Ahhhh Let me PM you my FB album link if you dun mind! I think I might update my ** with the pics eventually but knowing me, I will take way ages to do so!
