This is why you shouldn't preorder GPU due to hype. Always wait for reviews/benchmarks.

the lure of preorder Rx480 was not the hype, but the price.

it's still a pretty good card for the price.

ASUS RX 480 Gaming Strix pictured

ASUS' ROG Strix RX 480 GPU has been pictured, showing this GPU with ASUS' RGB illuminated DirectCU III cooler, ASUS' RGB backplate, and an 8-pin PCIe power connection.

Sadly at this time ASUS has not announced the clock speeds of this GPU, though we can expect this GPU to feature a factory overclock and operate at lower temperatures than AMD's reference RX 480.

AIB design should have release much earlier and now they are fighting with 1060. AMD fault? They assume 1060 won't release so early?

Let's see...

Went to Amazon

Cheapest RX 480 still at $300

Still got supply issues with reference how to make AIB?

nVidia also, only recently then FE supply becomes stable, and the low end still not available yet

But yea, AMD chip design / fab team also big time screwup. nVidia can release two dies with a 3rd one Titan Pascal on the way, AMD only finished one, and one with a flawed design goal from the start.

This is honestly not looking good for consumers. The last time this happened was with Phenom II (unless you count Phenom 1), which still managed to sell because of market inertia. But once inertia runs out and if they keep continue to make bad design choices à la Bulldozer... It is hard to recover from wrong research investment.

I feel AMD may have stored all the chips for their reference version to give it a big bang release in hindsight. They probably were not expecting the power issue to affect sales of the reference cards.

Personally, I still feel the RX 480 is more future proof than a GTX 970 and should have better driver support.

Hmm still gotta wait!

Sent from OnePlus A0001 using GAGT

I don't think its a distro's problem. I think the situation is the same everywhere where you only see pictures/ reviews of phantom RX 480 non reference cards. A quick search at say Amazon confirms that its a soft launch of non reference cards. Very disappointed with AMD actually. :o

Amazon does have the nitro+ OC 8/4GB on back order. It's been the #1 seller (8GB) since it was published 3 days ago. Newegg sold out and delisted.

It's now selling on back order. But if you looked at online communities there are some consumers holding the AIB model already.

Probably our local distros didn't manage to procure stocks from the first batch.
