Recruit to ocs/scs, depends on many factor. Ippt, mapas test, sit test, peer appraisal, commanders appraisal.

Reservist cycle not sure.

Yes, there's a couple of survey during bmt for you to express interest. But doesn't mean express interest = sure in. During SIT test they will ask you also.

You become a commander because you want easier life, or you want to lead?

During my time, sergeants command more respect that officers. Because (mostly), it's the sergeants who goes through the sh!t with the men while the officers (mostly) just sit on their ivory thrones and send their commands down.

Anyway, I thought now there's no direct intake to OCS? Thought it's BMT > SCS > OCS if one wishes to be an officer?

if you are a SGT during your NSF stint, you may be asked to be promoted to Offr if you are to sign on. But this will need tests & OCS to determine if your suitability.

Depends on the test you do before enlistment. Once inside, your performance is based on platoon level. Say your platoon has 60 people. You will be ranked 1 to 60. Usually 10% top will go ocs then subsequent go scs. Depends on the intake also. How will you be ranked ? See your commanders like you anot and backed by ippt , sit test and must have gone through all high key. Other optional criteria can be set by your very own commanders. My pc was a jc kid , and my 2 sect comms were very high gpa. Naturally, they see the transcript/gpa which you submit while in bmt. My friend gpa 1.8 became an officer. My gpa of 2.8 will better ippt score cannot. So it very much depends on your own commanders and sots available. Those that are not inclined doing well , will naturally choose someone they think can lead.

Express interest is see whether you interested or not , dont care what scs or ocs. I put interested in ocs , not interest in scs. Still went to scs.

How did you come to the conclusion of the top 10% figure?

Sometimes I feel it is more or whether the commanders like you or not.

Heard of many IPPT failures going to command schools.

Not true at all. Fail ippt cant go command schs.

Also regarding a few posts above, academic results wont affect whether you go ocs scs..

Well unless you are the one in charge of the posting, I don't think u can say conclusively unless hear say and being told by your commanders that "fail IPPT cannot go command schools"

And academic results does in a way affect whether can go OCS or SCS. At least not when u r already in leadership BMT.

If you don't have at least a diploma or a level, u will most likely not end up in leadership BMT hence unless u sign on or under very very rare circumstances can u even go SCS, don't even talk about OCS

unfortunately command schools is not so straight forward as fail IPPT cannot get in.

passing IPPT and getting good academic results do increases your chance to getting into command schools but the most important factor is still your leadership capability which is evaluated during SIT test and daily activities.

all those MAPAS test, peer/commander appraisal also play a part as well.

to quote a few examples from my people i know:

got a few BMT mates fail SOC but still got into OCS.

got a PES BP men which did not pass IPPT during BMT and got into SISPEC and completed the entire BSLC. but he did not get his chevron cos he did not managed to pass his IPPT even once throughout the entire BSLC duration.

got a 3SG friend during BSLC got selected for OCS cross-over interview but the OCS people tell him cos he is O-level graduate only (he dropped out from poly), he can't cross-over to OCS.

Tell that to Pinky who now says you don't need a uni degree. :s8:

That's the problem here, everything is paper. No paper no talk.

No...

Academic results do matter, it is the truth.

Fail IPPT, a small handful did manage to go in, but how they cope inside there is another thing.
