SDXC Memory Card for camera

Just checking which class 10 memory cards you guys are Using? 90-95mb is sufficient?

Usually I will go to Sim Lim to get it at bizgram where else do you guys recommend? Pc and. it shows?

Which camera?

Check the recommendation from the camera manufacturer, whether you need a class 10 or class 30 card. If you don’t do raw or high frame rate taking, no need to get those 300MB or even 90MB write speed.

Since you are asking, I would presume your camera is those compact fixed lens, just buy something cheaper.

I’m actually using a second hand Sony A7. Which class and write speed is good enough? I bought a class 10 95mb write speed. I shoot mostly in raw. Thinking of getting a high capacity type.

If you do not shoot 5fps kind of user, no point spend too much on 90MB write speed cards unless the price differences are minimal. Try getting the Sandisk Extreme 90MB/s rated 256GB@$159 or Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s rated 256GB@$175 from Best Bargain or some other shops you preferred. I will get the Extreme Pro personally given the small differences in pricing.

I have been using the Sandisk Extreme Pro from 8GB, 16GB for some time and been using the Samsung Pro 64GB (both SD and micro sd) and a couple of days ago added the 256GB Samsung Evo Plus which is rated at 90/80MB read write.

Also from my knowledge, A7 do not support UHS-II cards, so just the usual 95mb extreme pro will do.

Really appreciate your info. I don’t shoot 5fps the most I do was shoot continuous etc.

Will it be more worth while to buy speed cards that are 90mb/s or less since I don’t need 90mb/s? The ones u recommend are 90-95mb/s.

What is your experience with the sandisk, Samsung Evo and Samsung Evo Plus cards?

First, I work backwards. Like if I know I am on a travel trip, I plan to shoot maybe 150-200 shots and depending on the days x shots per day on a particular size, I look at suitable sizes of SDXC cards to buy. If you look at A7 raw, it is at 25MB per file, or 40 photos every 1GB or about 40x240 or almost 9600 photos on a 256GB card. Question is, do you need so many photos even on a trip? 200 shots on a trip is already a lot per day, which will translate to 48 days.

Second, I look at options on Lazada and Qoo10. If I need 256GB as options, is it better to have 2x 128GB to reduce risk of losing everything on an important trip. Is it also cheaper to have 2x 128GB compared to a single 256GB.

Third, I look also at future use or upgrades. If I am going to be contented with A7, or will I move up to the A7III in a couple of years. It is said that the A7 writes at 35MB/s? I am not sure, you have to find out yourself. The Sandisk range is the Ultra (15-20MB/s), Extreme (60MB/s), Extreme Pro (90MB/s) and Extreme Pro UHS-II (260MB/s) writes. While the Samsung is stuck with the Pro series of 90MB/s, Evo (10-15MB/s) and Evo Plus (15-80MB/s). Samsung is very confusing personally and they do not have great SDXC (not micro SDXC) range compared to Sandisk.

If you want to save money, the Samsung Evo Plus 128GB and 256GB are selling for like $60 and $140 with coupons and deals on Qoo10. For me, Sandisk is the top brand for reliability (not that my Samsung Pro has any issues)

Will do some more research, seems like the A7 does write at only 33mb/s or less, my thoughts are to get the SDXC 90-95mb/s thus in future if i upgrade my camera i can still use back the cards without compromising on the write speed etc. The A7riii does have one slot that supports UHS-II cards

usually, I will go bizgram but I get multiple 16Gb cards - Sandisk ExtremePro cards
Think I got 2 ExtremePro and 2 Extreme SD cards

Personally I prefer multiple smaller capacity cards (16/32) than 1 or 2 big capacity ones. Redundancy just in case.
