I have 1 printer and lets say 4 Working PC being used every time(by other family members)

My Printer is currently connected to asus nt56U router for print server function.
And data is transfered between Computers between Thumbdrives.

I Find it veryvery disturbing, troublesome and buggy(For asus print server)

Is there a way that link them all together like a home server? So all computer connected to my home network can access that 1 printer and can acccess that common drive.

I was wanting to get another PC, so maybe i can get that to be a home server? But what i need is the software and hardware part.

Im not too sure but, what I think my software would be "FreeNAS" but what about the printer part? Any help would be appericiated!

Thanks!

any one of the 4 PCs could become the server... Windows by default allows up to 10 users to connect to PC... you can check out Windows HomeGroup available on Windows 7+ for easy home/small office networking...

Does this sound like what you need?

GoFlex Home | Seagate

  • Back up multiple PCs and Mac computers in your home
  • Access your files over the Internet anytime, anywhere
  • Stream media to game consoles, networked computers and GoFlex TV HD media players
  • Share a USB printer among multiple PCs and Mac computers
