If you need EOD SGX data in Metastock format, get "data folio", one time fee S$88. With this you can use many charting s/w to plot charts.

If you want free EOD data with charting capability (but not as comprehensive as Metastock), go for ChartNexus free version.

Google to find out what others has to say about these 2 data source. Personally I have been using data folio for years.

@TS,
If choose not to pay then you need to do some work. Since SGX only provide 20 days, you can choose either Yahoo Finance or Google Finance route for more historical data. Please note that Google will block after too many anonymous data request but not Yahoo. All the SGX stock code are in the 2nd column(from the right) of SESprice.dat. For Yahoo, you pad ".SI" at the back and for Google, you pad "SGX:" at the front.
How to do it ?
1. Does your charting software able to pull EOD data from either Google or Yahoo ?
2. Does your charting software allow you to import EOD data ? If yes, then do you know how to write script to pull the EOD data ?

I second the recommendation for DataFolio.
Been using it with Amibroker and it's superb value for the price.

Hi Guys, can DataFolio work with NinjaTrader?

I would to have a free/affordable TA s/w to view historical SGX data from the company's IPO date till current day for my own research purposes.

Hope to have some insight from the gurus here.

TIA

@CarteBlanche,
It looks like your question is not answered.
All the replies are datafolio is good.
From the user guide NJ7...
http://ninjatrader.com/support/helpGuides/HelpGuideV6/helpguide.html
Under Historical Data > Import
It only takes in this import format
(date;open;high;low;close;volume)
YYYYMMDD;xxxx.xx;xxxx.xx;xxxx.xx;xxxx.xx;xxxx.xx

Most importantly each data is separated by ";".
You need to ask datafolio whether they supply "," or ";" separated data. If they only supply "," then you need to test whether NT can take it. Just install NinjaTrader and import at dummy "," separated file. If it works then you are done. NT is free anyway, so this test is zero cost you. :s8:

another 2 to consider..

premium data is quite expensive..

so i opt for eoddata.com
for the hk, us , sgx ,asx historical data for backtesting.

you can choose the format you want.. metastock, csv etc etc

i belive the data should be clean... though some have said premium data has the cleanest.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the advice.

Will check with datafolio for further information on the above.

I downloaded Ninja Trader but seems not intuitive to use. Had a hard time figure out how to load data.

I also downloaded TurtleRules and it is so Windows software like. Immediately I can download data from Yahoo to try out the software. The provided sample data are for forex only, but if have your own data in metastock format can use also.

U tried sgx site?

www2.sgx.com/research-education/securities

I think DataFolio or DataServerSG stopped working because the download site has shifted to this new location.

Anyone face similar problems with DataFolio? Checking to see if it's DataFolio problem or my computer's fault.

I am not sure if that is the cause. But my old tool to source for sgx data still works fine even after sgx site was revamped. No modification was needed. Perhaps not in my area of focus.
