If you are eyeing the best of the best, michelin-type, you may need a reservation via the hotel.

If you are happy with above average ratings which is considered excellent by SG standards, you can check https://tabelog.com/en/. Usually, ratings above 3.5 is very good enough. Nishi Shinjuku has lots of good eateries.

i stay there in 2013 dec, there a underground link from the station but far and winter, no cold air cold in the room.

Shopping is around shinjuku station. Mostly the other side of the station from where you're hotel is. Take a look at Google map of the area to orientate yourself. That's lots of food around. Several famous ramen in the area.

Best wagyu beef depend on your budget.
