Sigh.... CPU Hitting MHz Wall?

I meant MHz or GHz wall....

For past years, we don't see any 5GHz CPU from Intel..... Even with the shrink in process etc... Still no 5GHz.... Its like clockspeed hits the wall and cannot increase anymore. OC results also not good.

Clock speed race died the moment p4 died.

Core series onwards all about core counts and multi threading. Later revisions introduced performance per watt.

why do u need 5Ghz in the first place? 4Ghz out of the box already quite good

I tot sandy bridge time already gt 5ghz chips.
I gt 2 3570k running 5ghz.
I'm sure newer generation will be even better.

It's getting lousier, going down the slope.

Power scaling is that linear and CPU 22nm degradation is getting more obvious as compare to previous 32nm.

Expect similar trends on 14nm Skylake.

No its getting worse actually...... New chips cannot run at 5GHz. Even if you managed to run at 5GHz, it degrades very fast and insane voltage is required.

I read online that it is possible to run Broadwell at 5GHz but its not really stable and over 1.4V....confirm CpU will die fast....

Any 22nm CPUs aka Ivy Bridge and later will degrade very fast above 5ghz.

Even my Sandy Bridge i5-2500K which is 32nm I oc only to 4.5ghz at stock voltage for longevity. Although it can go to 5ghz but at pretty high voltage which I am not comfortable with.

Mine is 4.5ghz at 1.25v.
