The article discussed about the delayed approval due to security concerns of Simba's owning M1 5G network. On the other hand, Australia may retaliate the same concern of Singtel's Optus ownership which was discussed here before. So it seems the merger will still be approved especially the dateline of 25 March 2026 is drawing near. Doomsday of our telco industry is near. 😅

They may delay the decision and extend the deadline.

But I tend to agree that it will eventually get approved.

Singtel and StarHub complaining that SIMBA will hold big pie of the 900MHz spectrum should the acquisition gets approved, but keeping mum about SIMBA holding peanut of the 5G licence.

relatively easy since can self-service submit request online.

need to submit before 25th day of your current $12 plan billing cycle.

https://account.simba.sg/

  1. SIMBA subscribers are eligible to Change Plan on Days 1 to 25 of the plan cycle with a valid renewal. Suspended Plans are not eligible to Change Plan until the Plan is renewed.
  2. Subscribers are required to make full payment for the new plan. Once Change Plan is successful, the new plan will begin instantly. Standard Terms and Conditions of new plan apply. Refer to Critical Information Summary of SIMBA plans.
  3. Once the new plan is activated, the original plan will be terminated and there will be no refund of unused balance. Billing account ID and Wallet Balance of the original Plan remained unchanged.

Yesterday 7pm I submitted port in and collected the sim at the Orchard service center. The person said the sim card is activated and just wait for port to complete.

When I went home I inserted the simba sim card but still shows "No Service" until now 2pm.

I thought when the sim is activated the sim card will be usable with a temporary until the number changed to the port in. This is what I encounter with 8, M1, Cmlink - once sim activated can use immediately no need wait for port in to complete.

Not all are the same, giving a temporary number.

IMO 7pm a little too late for process to be done last night. Today being a weekday, higher chance then.

Check tomorrow morning for process to be completed, probably about 9am.

Just an update. Service replied email that porting completed on 14 Mar 5pm. This morning 15 Mar the new sim only activated after 9am. More than 1/2 day of no usable period (from time of old sim actual deactivation)

Not complaining but I have many telcos sims and simba is the only one that has an activated sim that cannot be used immediately and even after porting completed still not usable until next day. Other telcos I have (8,Maxx,Cmlink) the new sim is immediately usable with temporary number and after porting only less than 1hr downtime for the sim to switch to ported number.

I did not immediately need to use the number but awareness for those who needs to have phone access without lengthy disruption.

No u not imagining. I night shift lack of sleep lol.

So:
1. Signup online n collect sim 12 Mar 7pm, counter says sim activated (I didn’t insert test on the spot). Later when I reached home I noticed sim “No Service”, unlike many other telcos immediate can use via temporary number.
2. Service emailed say port completed 13 Mar 5pm. Existing sim deactivated.
3. Simba sim only usable 14 Mar 9am.

So downtime more than 12 hours (5pm to 9am). If this your only phone plan or need use otp be aware of this very long downtime.

Other telcos literally zero downtime from existing sim deactivated to new sim switch to existing number, AND new sim usable with temporary number immediately upon activation.

8 is actually the fastest….signup online walk to nearest sim shop collect sim activate and can start use. Zero hour. M1 and Cmlink forced to send via slow “express” postal mail, at least 1.5 day waiting game.
