I just bought 2 pairs of the Sineoji PL1800EP and a pair of the PL500EW for Wifi. Speed has been great. Much better than my previous Aztech HomePlugs.

I used it for 1 day without problem until something happened today. All of a sudden the speed of my Internet came crashing down. Check the router and it was ok. Concluded that it was the PL1800EP that somehow malfunctioned. After much switching on and off and resetting, managed to get it back to normal. I noticed that the plugs get extremely hot when I first started diagnosing the problem. I'm just wondering whether the malfunction was due to the heat? Anyone has similar experience?

Dear kevintan12,

It is normal when the PL1800EP gets warm as it is running on high speed since it is based on a 1800mbps powerline. Same goes for a processor when it is running at high speed and frequency, it will gets warm.

If you reset it, make sure that is reset correctly by following these steps :

1. On the 1st HomePlug press the button the right, hold it and do not release it until all the 3 LED lights disappeared.

2. On the 2nd HomePlug, repeat the same process as above.

3. Next press the button on the 1st Homeplug for 1 second and release. The Power LED starts blinking continuously.

4. Proceed to the 2nd HomePlug and press for 1 second and release. The Power LED starts blinking continuously.

5. Both homeplugs will stop blinking and the data light will appear. Homeplugs has been reset and paired.

Thanks for the reply. Another question. On wifi I am getting roughly 30Mbps. Is this generally the speed that one gets? Because when I switch to 4G, I get 60+.

Dear kevintan12,

The PL500EW Bandwidth Frequency by default is set at 20Mhz. You may want to it to 20/40 Mhz.

Here is a video to guide you in changing the above parameter.

Change the settings to 40Mhz, everything was ok in the day, however, come night, speed dropped to 4Mbps from 60Mbps. Will the auto setting make this better?

Kevintan12,

Yes changing to 20/40 Auto will be consistent.

I'm experiencing something that is real strange. My setup is as follows.

ONT > Asus RT-68U > (1) PL1800EP
Linked to another room #1---- (3) PL500EW for WiFi
Linked to another room #2 ---- (2) PL1800EP > (4) Netgear GS208 Switch to 3 PCs
Linked to another room #3 ---- (4) PL1800EP > PC
Linked to another room #3 ---- (5) PL500EW for WiFi

Intermittently, I found that my PL1800EP (1) seems to crash. My broadband will drop to crawl speed of around 2 to 3 Mbps. I subsequently had to reboot the (1) PL1800EP

This is my connection from my ONT to notebook. Speed is fast on my 1Gbps link.

This is my connection from Asus RT-68U router to notebook. Speed dropped slightly, but still fast.
4.png

This is my connection from (2) PL1800EP in room #2. As you can see the speed dropped considerably.

I managed to get everything working back to normal where I got around 150Mbps on the (2) PL1800EP connection in room #2 by:

1. Rebooting the (1) PL1800EP that is connected to the router.
2. Rebooting the (1) PL1800EP that is in room #2.

Incidentally, pinging from room #2 to my Asus RT-68U router before I did the above, I got a constant 5ms when I did a speed test, it was around 200 - 500ms. After the reboot, I get 4ms and doing a speedtest, I get 20ms to 40ms

Can I get some advise from Sineoji? I can't be rebooting all my HomePlugs every now and then. I did not test the other rooms HomePlugs.

Kevintan12,

The PL1800E did not crash but I suggest that you remove the 2 PL500EW from the network. Also pls secure the 3 PL1800E with a homeplug network group and do a test.

Let me know what is the outcome.

Kevintan12,

After analysing your configuration, obviously it will crash as the homeplugs are confused within the network group.

With your current setup, you need to create 2 unique homeplug network group otherwise you will encounter this symptoms.

Can I schedule our staff to come over and create the homeplug network group with your current configuration ?

Let me know.

Kevintan12,

Here is a video to create a secured homeplug network ID for your reference. The steps are similar regardless of homeplugs models.

You are right. When I switch off the Wifi, the speed boosted up to near 200Mbps. Please advise how then can I make use of the Wifi HomePlugs?

Depending on time of day, from 120 - 200 on fixed. On WiFi around 50 - 90. Better than before with the other brand HomePlugs. Fixed I was getting sub 100, around 50 and Wifi around 15 - 20.

Still, big difference from connecting it directly to the router. On the router with my 1Gbps connection, I get 700+. Other than having ugly wiring casings throughout the house, this is the best option for me.
