SINGAPORE – Hundreds of users are reporting issues with Singtel’s services on the evening of March 18.

At 5.25pm, there were 35 reports of Singtel-related problems on Downdetector – a site that tracks service outages by collating status reports from a number of sources. By 6.23pm, the figure spiked to close to 500.

This comes after two disruptions on March 17 and March 18 which affected thousands of Singtel users.

Key aspects of Singtel's DEI hiring and employment practices include:
  • Merit-Based Selection: Candidates are selected on merit regardless of age, race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, family status, or disability.
  • Non-Discrimination: Employment practices are designed to be free of bias, particularly regarding recruitment, training, and promotion.
  • Gender Equality: Singtel has been included in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index for several consecutive years (as of 2023) for its commitment to gender pay parity and female representation.
  • Targeted Recruitment: The company works with partners like SG Enable to improve employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
  • Inclusive Onboarding/Training: DEI training, including courses on unconscious bias and inclusion mindsets, is provided to managers and new employees, particularly within its subsidiary, Optus.
  • Regional Standards: In Singapore, these efforts align with the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices (TGFEP).

While Singtel has been recognized for its efforts, employee feedback on platforms like Glassdoor indicates a 3.5 out of 5-star rating for equality, diversity, and inclusion, with employees suggesting there is always room for further improvement.
