Running on lower voltage when understress is due to vdroop. Some safety feature inbuilt by Intel. It is normal.

But stuck at 1.28v on idle is abnormal.

Likely cause
-did you use fixed vcore? that is you keyed in 1.28v in your bios?
-did you enabled intel speedstep in cpu configuration of your bios? Also did you enable all c-states for best power savings?
-did you disabled Svid in bios? It should be left on Auto/Enabled for Skylake chips.
-did you enabled balance power settings in Windows "power options"?
-you should use at least auto vcore.
-best imo is to use adaptive vcore with overclocking.

Present Skylake chips should be good at 4.5 to 4.7 on average at below 1.3v.

So far with limited samples, 1.3v for Skylake is equivalent to 1.2v for Haswell/Ivy, in terms of heat output. :D

EIST and C-states already enabled.
override/adaptive still the same results.
Yes, 1.28V is what I keyed in. it runs on 1.23V at 4.4

I dont understand why are u advertising for skylake when there are clearly no incentive of upgrading, if u are building a new PC, den yes it is probably good to go for Skylake if u have the cash, if not a 2nd hand IB/SB will do the job just fine

And no, the last I check you cannot OC 6700K cache and the capacity amount remain same as haswell counterpart, did u mistake 6700K with 5775C eDram clock?

It could be slightly better than Haswell but dont blow proportion out of water claiming its 15% IPC improvement unless u do personal review and show us. :)

Woah chill man.

In case you never noticed, i already posted my OC in this thread. Cache OC just fine on Skylake. :D

I believe so far my modest 6600K has the highest CPUZ single thread score in HWZ. :D

I think there is your issue.
You are using fixed voltage settings. Imo fixed voltage is only useful for bench-marking OC. For normal 24/7 OC, i will explore adaptive voltage for best voltage control. :D

Got one spare to try.

4.5/4.5 core/cache at DDR4-2800 seems very easy at 1.25v. No tweaks, just enter arbitrary vcore and boom!
The speed is almost reach the 8T 4790k! :D

Temps seem fairly good at this settings, after 12mins stress. :D

Taking my Ivy Bridge i5-3570k and your Skylake i5-6600k both clocked at 4.5GHz, Skylake i5 only improves by 13.8% for single-threaded and 17.5% for multi-threaded compared to Ivy Bridge...

Record 204 ** R15 single core on 4.7/4.7/2.8 OC trio? :D

Things noted:
- ** R15 shows W10 as W8. lol
-0v idle vcore still works on Skylake even without FIVR! :D
-Please play with LLC and Adaptive vcore to get the best optimal OC/temps/vcore. OC is easy, i left the rest of bios to Auto.
-Temps spread between cores are very good, only 4 celsius variance for mine.
-Noted the TDP stayed well below the 91W official specs even under high OC settings! Normal non-OC use only around 30-35W TDP! That is gaming laptop class bins! Not sure if HWinfo reading error, or our local batch of Skylake is really that good! Hoot first talk later!

Tiagong Skylake should use BCLK to overclock! Will try that over the weekends if it helps to get higher clocks at lower voltages. :D

Contemplating if should upgrade from 3570k to skylake. Been doing 4.5G on 1.28-1.3v. Been trying to find if there's any biggie difference before my backside itches again.
We'll, following thread for more feedback.
