Small cpu PC

Hi guys, need some advise on those small CPU pc.

gonna move into my new home soon and not planning to have a normal size cpu with monitor setup. Doesn't have a table in the master bed room too.

Plan to use my 43" tv as my display and these small CPU.

Walk around SLS but can't seem to see any. Are they all self built units ?

My usage is mostly to surf net, watch videos / movies (maybe HD or 4k since TV is able to go that resolution , do some excel and do the odd PS. Don't play PC games at all. WIFI and lan ports is a need.

How should i setup hardware wise or any brands that have pre built one which is good for my use ?

i am not sure of the price range so i can't really tell. I am guessing the price isnt very much off from a normal size pc because of the miniaturise of the parts ?

Which is more value for money and lowest total cost of ownership (TCO): NUC, mini ITX system or micro ATX desktop?

Lowest total cost and most value for money is 2 different thing. Lowest cost is NUC. Most value is mATX as there's plenty of upgrade space.

Depending on your usage, you gotta see which one is most justified. If you don't plan to do upgrades of hardware, then NUC is your choice.

ITX is more expensive usually, but there's still upgrade space. Usually for people who have space constraints while still wanna have upgrade path.

Some of those mini pc that does not come with hard disk and ram are less attractive. Once you factor in price of Windows plus ram and hard disk, its not cheaper than laptop... If you want to get a mini pc better than atom, get those that came with Windows, like the zotac series.

Itx diy pc is definitely not cheapest among all above. But it definitely much more powerful. E.g. I have dtb-t2 digital tv tuner USB stick. The zotac with the quad core celeron is not fast enough to process the video... And the USB powered active tv antenna needs an extra USB port... So, full fledged PC still has a place in the home. And more sophisticated media software like kodi certainly can use more of the CPU... Itx motherboard came a long way and it's not that much more expensive than a m-atx board ...

So, I still have these 3 form factors in my home...

My mum uses a minix z64 for checking 4D result, Skype with my nieces and watch on video online... It's good enough. This has an edge over conventional pc in that, it's low power and completely sealed with no venting holes. Will there is not place to catch dust... My mum's place in Malaysia is sure dusty.

use mpc for playback and set hw decoder to dxva copy back

jus wish to ask the experts here is it worth it to get those Cherry trail ATOM CPU w/4GB RAM and 64GB emmc for not more than $250

or the Intel NUC w/ Apollo lake Celeron CPU w/2GB RAM and 32GB emmc for $400

both comes with win 10 pre installed.

jus using it for online streaming 720/1080P movies and surfing net.

get the 4gb version less than $200. very worth it. i have 2 tablets and use it to play movies. can output to tv too and if you use bluetooth mouse and on screen keyboard...
