Some good ones turn bad because of the commission and also probably pressure from their own managers to close more deals. I know of some people irl who are being "encouraged" to close more ILP and endowment deals.
it is easier to use greed to let a prospective customer open up to you, then to talk to them about protection.

CPF shield plans is easy to penetrate, cause it is not out-of-pocket expenses.

but yes, ILP, endowment, whole life plans benefit the insurance co, the insurance agent, then you.

What do you expect? Why would some bloke wear shirt & pants with a A4 folder to talk gently to you, about YOUR WELL-BEING & FUTURE, for the price of FREE???

For the record, I am an IFA. This is just so timely as I was just explaining to my prospective client today why I charge a fee in my advisory while many agents give free advises.

The problem with free advise is that it benefits the agent more than it benefits the client. While in my fee based advisory, there is analysis with support data and document, excel calculations that can be verified and a wide range of products from various insurers to choose from (not just from 1 company and with company that I cannot represent). So a lot of time, my recommendations are lowest cost (hence lowest commission) but best for the clients.

But the sad fact is most Singaporean is not willing to pay for an honest advise but choose go with free advise that really don't benefit them. Then when thing happens, they complain forum and write to newspaper. If no one is willing to pay for an honest advise, how is the advisor going to survive? What most unethical customer do is take honest advise without paying and buy from someone or some firm that offer them rebate. Eventually, all the good advisor are forced out of market, leaving those who are giving free (and hopefully good) advise.

well, the fact is this...
most singaporeans are entitled, lazy & stupid.

I am writing w the retrospect where after being true to my beliefs...
I am a high networth individual now.

here's the thing, for any keen readers...

what do you need as the first step?

pls buy the hospitalisation insurances, shield plan + riders... so that when u are in the hospital, it's paid for.

then, look at how much you think your life is worth, get a term plan to what that amount is.

it should comprise of the figure that your mortgage is or if possible in multiples of it.

that's all.

the rest are fluff.

when u get CI, etc... you just want to die.

no amount of money would be enough to compensate you for the new condition.

ok, so the above is kinda abstract for u to understand? right?

so here goes... how much do u want for me to crush your eyeballs?

usually, most people would rather stay sh%t poor but continue to have eyesight, right?

so there u go.

CI is BS.

when u have a terminal illness that u will end up dying faster, don't prolong it.

so embrace it and start writing your will or doing whatever u want before u go, that's all.

* for the question on road-show, u don't pool your profits... u only pool the costs for the road-show.

i am glad that i didn't ******** my friends, strangers to buy crap from me.

it became a habit and my clients pay for my lifestyle...

while most people are chained to their jobs.

;)
