Software to Test Portable USB HDD

I just bought a portable WD 2TB USB3.0 HDD and my comp detect it got
error after installing the WD Drive Utilities.
Tried HDtune also failed the error scan.
Plug the HDD on my laptop and don't seem to be having error.. with the
same software..
Anybody can advise any reliable software to test the portable HDD whether
having error or bad sector?
Want to ensure it is defective before I arrange for return..

WD Harddisk use WD utilities.
When S.M.A.R.T says harddisk is going to die it only is a matter of time.

Where the bad sector appear in HDTune scan? If at the beginning, simply write a big mkv file over and observe if writing speed slow to a crawl when over bad sectors area.
