You thought this moment would never come…. Think again. Meet the new RX1R III -- a follow-up to the cult classic, and a marvel of modern engineering. This impossibly small, full-frame camera has been carefully refined over a decade to become the ultimate premium compact camera.

To celebrate its long-awaited arrival, we took to the streets of New York City, capturing a rekindled love of photography through the lens of the RX1R III. Our film’s stars @monaris and @DavidBurnettFoto give us a glimpse into the joy of roaming the city with a camera that lets you lose yourself in the moment.

Price comparison with competitors ( In USD since no SGD price released so far, though US tariffs would have impacted across all items )

Fixed Lens APSC
Fujifilm x100vi - $1,599 USD - 23mm f/2 ( 35mm equivalent accounting for crop factor )
Fixed Lens Full Frame ( same Sony sensor )
Sony RX1R III - $5,099.99 USD - 35mm f2
Leica Q3 - $6,735.00 USD - 28mm f/1.7
Fixed Lens Medium Format
Fujifilm GFX100RF - $4,899 USD - 35mm f4 ( 28mm equivalent accounting for sensor size )

I am guessing folks in the market for a premium fixed lens camera might now take a really hard look at Fujifilm, though the larger form factor will be less appealing. Weight and Size and perhaps faster Ai AF will likely be the larger appeal for the RX1Riii amongst competitor.

Interchangeable Full Frame
Sony a7CR - $2,998.00 USD
Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM -$1,498.00 USD
Total - $4,496 USD

Same sensor same bionz processor same PDAF points same Ai focusing, slightly larger setup with brighter lens and more flexibility for a cheaper price.

I still have my RX1R

and my next camera will be the next version of GR IIIx hopefully with weather seals on the body and lens.

But if I were to buy the RX1RIII, just need to make sure the price is way cheaper than the US tariff included price else the same price means I am helping someone in the US pay for his tariff.

disappointing?

Price is the most disappointing bit.

Also they did not change the optical formula from since rx1rii 10yrs + ago , not sure if it is still good enough to resolve the new higher mp sensor.

Ricoh did amazing work making an APSC so compact and pocketable.

did they keep using FW50 to make it smaller? but no logic forme

FW50 batt life is dismal , FZ100 is so much better but also larger.

Might be a design consideration to keep form factor like u said.

Fujifilm has done a fine job keeping the size of a medium format that small/compact ..

hmm ... maybe they didn't mean anti reflection/ flare. not sure what is 無反芒/mon?

well with OIS probably handheld shots better

yes do agree due to weight & size

Not sure, but if is 無反相机 means mirrorless.

OIS / IBIS is good to have and will shine on telephoto ranges.

But yes they can allow short periods of semi long exposures without tripod even on wides, along more space for creativity. With some luck half a second hand held can be quite doable in modern IBIS/OIS systems.

RX1R was launched in 2013
RX1Rii was launched in 2015.

I dun think they will be doing update anymore.

Even the Sony A1 'only' has firmware support for 5 yrs from launch.

bro... they launch a A1ii ... i am not talking about a software update.

i am talking about really updating the h/w... no doubt better h/w means better s/w... as in the case from the A7R series... etc

so this launch...seem... underwhelming... esp many people like the 2013 1R

Ah Ic I mistakenly thought u were referring to software updates.

Sony works in mysterious ways, RX1Rii came 2 yrs after Ri, and when they were radiosilent for 10 yrs people thought Sony was discontinuing the RX1R line .. During Ri and Rii era there were no real credible competitors but now the space is heating up. Once in a while they make really tiny incremental updates on new cameras, like the A1->A1ii, the A9->A9ii.

RX1Riii could be a great compact FF 2nd body for someone with a primary A1/ii :s13:
