Hi folks

My asus sonar d2x just died after 8 years. God bless it's longevity.

Am now thinking what can replace this legendary sound card, to pair with my Bose companion 50, another crazy sound piece.

My usage is mainly on modern warfare, watching shows, and very occasionally listening to musik.

I researched and was considering the schiit amp and dac combi, until I saw voltage issues in sg

And was also considering the asus essence stx ii until I saw that the dac inside is inferior to the original essence.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

your usage: seems like only need sound.

i honestly think you should just grab a new SB for like $50 or something and use that.

or just get back what you had, since you only need sound. might not even need to install drivers.

essence is quite ex still no? for like $400+?

that money buy some better speakers. and a ok soundcard, might be a better investment.

- Get Creative soundcard like Sound BlasterX AE-5 Pure Edition
- Upgrade the BOSE 2.1 to a better speaker
Like Aego 3 2.1 or Klipsch Promedia

Bose does a pretty good job reproducing sound from those form factor

But that "only need sound" comment does remind me

Bose converts the incoming analog signal to digital to feed its DSP. i.e.

Your DAC -> Bose's ADC -> DSP -> Bose's DAC

So you decide if having an expensive DAC is worth it. It's a philosophical question with no right or wrong, since there are indeed people using expensive DACs with DSP studio monitors and it would be rude to invalidate their existence.

Sound cards will improve the sound quality of your system, but if you don't have the appropriate speakers or headset, you will never notice the difference. :) Better get one!

The sound card offloads work from your CPU, which in return gives you better overall frame-rates while gaming. Agree bros? :)

Just try out anything under 150 price range. If you can't experience any form of upgrade you can stop right there.
