Suggestions for GPU upgrade

Hi guys, i'm looking for suggestion to upgrade for my GPU. Any constructive feedbacks are welcome

ASRock Z77 Extreme4

-Graphics Card
Sapphire HD 7850 2GB OC Edition
-Memory
8GB G.Skill Ripjaw 1600Mhz

-Display
Dell U2713HM 27" WQHD AH-IPS Monitor

-Power Supply Unit
FSP Aurum 550W Gold Series Modular

-Casing
NZXT Phantom 410


I think I'm gonna use this rig for another few years (built it on 2012). Therefore looking to upgrade part by parts. Currently I think my GPU is pretty insufficient power for my monitor.. GPU budget hopefully <$500 sgd , unless theres a really good deal. My main concern is whether my PSU is able to handle better GPU.
I'm looking for factory OC gpu preferably , not intending to OC the gpu myself.

Single monitor , GTX970 shld be sufficient for 1440p right? Comparing to GTX980.

Personally, I'll buy from the 2nd hand market. People upgrade very fast & even sell off latest item at a big discount. The condition still very good. And with almost full warranty, nothing to worry about. Only need to get over the mindset someone fondled the card previously.
