anyone been to Surabaya can share what to do there?

I have heard of Mount Bromo. Thinking of heading there. Anyone been there, can recommend any package/tour agency for arrangements? it will be good if you remember how much you paid for the package, just for reference.

appreciated!

i went with mytravelmalang last year to Mount Bromo and Ijen
MYTRAVEL Malang – Bromo Sunrise Ijen Crater Malang Tour

price per person was IDR 1,965,000, based on twin sharing.

Mount Bromo and Ijen are beautiful... but be prepared for super long journeys. it was half day journey from surabaya to bromo and almost a full day journey from bromo to ijen. make sure u find something to entertain urself during the long rides in the minivan

Bromo is the top attraction for Surabaya; you come out of the airport, you can see big big posters of it, and even their departure tax ticket has a pic of it.
Going there is easy as there are plenty of agencies arranging the standard tours. Also for Ijen, take note that the sulphurous fumes can be nasty at times; when we came back, our jackets etc all smell of sulphur which takes a couple of washings to remove :)

I love the billowing of mists in Bromo; here's a short timelapse I did :

Very interesting information. I heard that Surabaya has amongst the best artists in the region. If I want to ship for art where would be a good place to visit?

I visited Surabaya and Mt Bromo in 2010. I booked accommodation at Cemoro Lawang, which is the village within walking distance to the crater. From the airport taxi counter, we hired a taxi to take us to Cemoro Lawang. The following morning, we set off at 3am to trek across the lava plain to the crater, with the objective of arriving there by sunrise. On hindsight, we should have hired a jeep to take us to all the viewpoints in addition to Mt Bromo. This is what most visitors do. The whole visit could have been accomplished by mid-day.
We spent the next 2 days in unremarkable Surabaya. The highlight was the visit to the Museum Sempoerna and kretek factory. We also visit the innards of an ex-TNI submarine.
