Switching from Intel to AMD

Hi,

I’m building a ryzen rig and planning to reuse my OS SSD.
Will there by any issues if I don’t reinstall the windows 10?
If I have to reinstall, what’s the best way to transfer all game saves/profile etc without cloud saves?

Usually works fine. First time will install drivers, then on reboot it's OK.

After that, install the Ryzen chipset drivers from AMD and the motherboard drivers. Choose Ryzen Balanced in your Windows Power Profiles

Nah, I've transferred the same drive 4 times from Intel to x370 to Intel to x470 to Intel to x570 and it's fine. Windows 10 is pretty good at it.

Will not work if your windows 10 license is OEM as it's a major hardware change(MB+CPU). Run "slmgr.vbs /dlv" without quotes to check if it's not. Otherwise, re-activation of your windows 10 requires either its product key or use your MS account.

Might go blue screen of death due to previous installation of would be conflicting drivers. Some lost of efficiency if your previous system is not UEFI compatible or GPT partitioned.

As for clean install, a backup of your document folder and the Appdata folders(optional as they contain previous configuration data for installed apps or games, even if you don't reuse, it will be recreated once you install said apps or games - local, locallow, roaming) is generally enough. If you use MS account, it will even resynced back to previous windows settings. Specialized software where you configure to use custom folders to store stuff, backup those custom folders if you plan to use that software. Backup can be burn to disc, copy to usb stick, or upload to cloud service or own NAS, or another storage drive like D:.

Thank you all for the responses.
If I get a new m.2 SSD for the OS, and use the old OS SSD as secondary drive as it is, will it clash with the new SSD? Since there will be 2 OS now.
And will I still be able to access the files on that drive as per normal?

It will just boot up based on which drive you specify. Your old OS drive will look messy, as there will be some space set aside like 500MB and then the main volume.

This to me would be the best option and the one I would do if I was in your situation. And what you can do here is to boot into either drive (change boot drive via bios to switch between drives) to grab what you need from the old one and backup/migrate it across. Once you are happy that you have migrated everything over to the new drive you can then reformat the old SSD and reuse it!

You will also gain from the M.2 SSD speed too so its a win win

I will rather do it now, rather than later got any problem which cannot solve then do it then.

But having said that, doing it now, also doesn't guarantee that in future don't need to reinstall.

is just changing cpu and mb, it shld not have any issue
not 2010 anymore where gotta tweak registry abit to make amd work on intel image
