Hi guys
bringing my parents to Taiwan which will be their first trip

Can I get some recommendations on the accommodation in Taipei for 3 nights?
Is is better to stay near XMD or Taipei main station?
will staying in minsu be more inconvenient if my main focus in taipei is probably the night market and possibly a day trip to 9 fen and 10 fen.

Am also looking at a couple of nights in Taichung or Cingjing.
considering a couple of minsu I read in fellow forummers posting.
am looking to visit places like
- cingjing (is there anything else there other than the farm?)
- Sun Moon lake
- Xitou Monster village
- Times village

any help is appreciated
Thanks!!

I find that Taipei main station mrt is too big and need to walk more to reach the mrt exit. Ximen station is easier.

Taipei doesn't have minsu. The cheaper option is rental apartment. However most rental apartment does not have cleaning service on daily basis.

You can travel to Taichung from airport. Can get a driver to pick you from airport if you want a fuss free trip. Most drivers can help you to plan your itinerary.

You can read my TaiChung and Cingjing trips here:

Taipei do have minsu, but you would probably prefer staying in hotel as it has more value.

Minsu you can stay in places like Cingjing...

Taipei would recommend Cityinn, they have branches near TMS and Ximen, also in Taichung.

Taichung cityinn cheaper than their branch in Taipei area :)
That's based on my own research when I stayed taipei and taichung ...

Not sure about your parents age range.
I Stayed with my elderly parents at Chaiin Hotel last November. I think it suit elderly quite well. Although it not very near to night market, it is just beside the train station with a lift that I can take from the train station to the ground level. My dad's legs are not very strong and the hotel is relatively new and clean

Fun Fun Fun: Taipei free and easy : Dongmen mrt station Chaiin Hotel

thanks all for the recommendations!!

for taipei i will probably stick to XMD..think its easier for me to arrange things from there?
considering
orange hotel/cityinnhotel XMD at the moment

will a day trip hiring driver to jiufen (old street) and shifen (old street + waterfall + tian deng) sufficient to cover everything?

for cingjing (much thanks to sflow, really get alot of info from yr blog:o:s12:)
shortlisting starry mansion and euro country

am thinking if i shld book a hotel in taichung just for my parents to rest...as i wont be traveling with them to taichung

so am thinking Kaoshiung --> Taichung --> Cingjing before meeting up again in Taipei

Consideration for Sun Moon Lake

Just something additional (in case you missed it out): You can consider visiting Sun Moon Lake (sightseeing for your parents) if you're getting a driver to drive you up/down between Cingjing and Taichung!

can book a hotel at taichung for your parents to rest ba.
If take bus from taichung railway station to SML or cingjing is 3hrs plus.
If by cab, maybe shorter journey ...
SML and cingjing is two different place .... like jiufen and shifen, is a either or thingy ... coz ruifang is the midpoint

there are cityinn hotels near tms. in fact there are 3 of them: Cityinn I, II and III.

if you hire a driver, can cover from yeliu, jiufen, shifen, jinguashi, and a few scenic spots along the way. from 9am to 7pm. quite worth the nt3500.

the last trip i stayed in starry in cingjing. pretty nice. includes breakfast and steamboat dinner. the steamboat taste very good cos of the cold weather.

I booked a cab, went yehliu, jiufen, jinguangshi, shifen, shifen waterfall, keelung, yingyanghai, tong hua street, toufu street ... 3500 ntd
If you take public transport , is abt 3hrs plus for just jiufen and shifen.
excluding waiting time ....
