Just wanted to share a taxi fare estimator site for those who may find themselves in a situation where a cab is necessary (e.g. Tsukiji early in the morning):

Website: nihon-kotsu

English guide: Estimating taxi fares in Japan

Dunno abt that site, but fr my observation. Every entry to cab cost 710Yen. Additional 200m cost 500Yen.

Some place distance quite far so..... :s13::eek:

Note: 10 SGD = 800yen.

710 yen base is for Tokyo. Places like Ibaraki and Nagoya are 500 yen. Live in Tokyo for a couple of years liao so took cab quite a number of times. The estimation is relatively zhun.

Could you share a bit about what it was like living in Japan?

When I was in Sapporo for a week I had a feeling like I just wanted to move there for a few months. Not just Sapporo but also other parts of Japan.

Not that I really have the luxury to plant myself there for a few months - but everything also seemed so much more affordable than living in Singapore, and Japan is just an amazing country with really well mannered people.

We are still living in Tokyo now and, yeah, we really like Japan. Cost-wise, Tokyo is not very different from SG, but there are so many more things to do and people are generally nicer. We live in an apartment block and one of the neighbouring families even invited us over for dinner. Somehow... life is just more balanced here. Things like cycling around, walking in the park, taking day trips, etc... Wife has many 'mamatomos' (mother friends) and daughter is enjoying herself too.

To think that Tokyo is one of the least-friendly Japanese cities....

Initially planned to stay for about 4 years or so. Now thinking about longer-term and maybe even PR.

Wow! That's just fantastic. I'm pleasantly surprised to hear you were invited over for dinner.

Thanks for sharing. I'm honestly a little jealous!
