Has anyone obtained a temporary license to drive in China?

yes, quite troublesome

you need to spend 1 day at least to go thru paperwork in those ulu cities but i saw online that if you landed in beijing, there's 1 stop shop in the airport

paperworks includes
1) translate your passport and driving licenses to chinese
2) take photo first
3) after taking picture, then hospital for medicial checkup - 省级 level and above gov hospital or certain place their TP department can do the same checkup for you (all in 1)
4) when u have those 3 items, then go to their TP department (车管所） to get them issue you temporary driving license


If you are normal singaporean, you only have 14 days visa free so the temp license will be 14 days.

I entered with APEC card so i was issued with 2 months validity of the temp driving license

Next comes the most shitty things, you must rent car from car rental company

car rental company requires 3 months and above license validity ( WTF )
and most likely you must make payment in their unionpay card (get the card via SG banks)

end of the day, lucky i travelled with a china MM so used their license to rent a car....


in summary, they are not ready for foreigners to rent car

that was my 3 yrs ago experience

Tried to convert to their perm license last year but was rejected because singapore scholars decided to put Class 3 license to have 7 passengers + 1 driver ( 8 ppl ) compare to international standard - 8 passengers + 1 driver (9 ppl). They asked me to take class 4 in singapore or go to hong kong convert the license first.

depends from city to city

best read up the rules from the city you plan to apply
i tried once in si chuan where i get the temp driving license . They just need a valid translation company to translate for you , ask them print their company registration all those will do

when i do it in gz, they request you to go to their gov translation agency. something like that .
