Malaysia police to make arrest soon in Taiwanese influencer murder probe

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian rapper Namewee is expected to be arrested soon to assist investigations into the murder of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh at a hotel in Jalan Conlay, Kuala Lumpur.
KL police chief Fadil Marsus said the movements of the victim and the individual last seen with her before her death on Oct 22 were being reviewed.
“We will re-examine all the victim’s movements and those of the so-called suspect we have identified. We expect to make an arrest soon,” he said on Nov 4.
“Updates on the progress will be provided from time to time,” he added.
Datuk Fadil said the victim arrived in Malaysia on Oct 20 and was scheduled to stay until Oct 24.
He added that the post-mortem and toxicology reports are pending, and the cause of death remains under investigation.
“It is too early to reveal the cause of death. The post-mortem and toxicology reports will give us clearer findings later,” he said.
He urged those with information to come forward and assist the investigation.
“We really need help from the public,” he said. “Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the police.”
Asked about the suspect believed to have been last seen with the victim, he said the individual would be called in to assist.
“The individual last seen with the victim is considered involved for now, at least to assist in investigations,” he said.
Datuk Fadil said the police have recorded statements from several individuals linked to the case. They include hotel staff, security personnel and others connected to the victim’s movements from the airport to the hotel.
“It is a comprehensive investigation involving staff, hotel, security and travel details,” he said.
“Everything is being examined thoroughly,” he added.
Previously, Datuk Fadil said the case was reclassified from sudden death to murder. He said the decision followed initial investigations.
On Nov 2, Namewee – whose real name is Wee Meng Chee – denied using drugs and involvement in the death of the influencer, saying the truth will emerge when police reports are released in the coming months.
The 42-year-old posted a statement on Instagram after what he described as “unsubstantiated news reports” linked him to the death of Hsieh. She was found dead in a hotel bathtub.
“I haven’t used drugs, nor have I been carrying any. At most, I’ve been drinking more lately.
“Believe it or not, the truth will come out when the police report is released, which should take another two or three months,” he wrote in Chinese. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK

Taiwanese influencer dies in M'sia, rapper Namewee implicated but denies drug use & involvement in death
They were reportedly working on a video together.
Malaysia rapper Namewee has been linked to the death of a Taiwanese influencer, known by fans as "Nurse Goddess".
Hsieh Yu-hsin, also known as Iris Hsieh, was reportedly on a shoot abroad when the news broke on Oct. 30.
According to Sin Chew Daily's report on Nov. 2, the assistant commissioner of the Cameron Highlands police district confirmed that Namewee was involved in the case and has been charged for drug use and possession of drugs.
However, Namewee has put up a statement on Instagram denying the allegations on Nov. 2.

Sin Chew Daily reported that Namewee and Hsieh had been working on filming a video together and were discussing matters in the hotel room.Hsieh then went to the bathroom to take a shower alone, but allegedly did not come out after half an hour, prompting Namewee to check on her.
He then found her dead in the bathtub and tried to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but to no avail.
Namewee then called the emergency hotline at 12:30pm, Sin Chew Daily reported.
When the paramedics arrived, he allegedly did not explain in detail what had happened before walking towards the hotel elevator.
He was stopped by the police who happened to be deployed on that floor for the Asean Summit taking place a few days later.
He reportedly appeared flustered at the time and insisted to the police officers that he had never used drugs.
The police officers then escorted Namewee back to the hotel room where Hsieh was staying, which led to the discovery of the body.
It was reported that the body was found in the bathtub without any water in the tub or on the floor.
Namewee alleged drug use
Sin Chew Daily reported that Hsieh's cause of death is still unclear and is being investigated by the forensic team.However, Taiwanese media reported her manager Chris as saying the cause of death was a heart attack.
According to Sin Chew Daily, Namewee tested positive for four drug components and has been charged in the Kuala Lumpur First Criminal Magistrate's Court on Oct. 24 for drug use and possession of drugs.

However, Namewee has put up a statement on Instagram denying using drugs and involvement in Hsieh's death.
The rapper said he felt he had to put up a response after seeing an "unsubstantiated news report".
"I haven't used drugs, nor have I been carrying any. At most, I've been drinking more lately. Believe it or not, the truth will come out when the police report is released, which should take another two or three months," he wrote in Chinese.
He explained that the case is still under investigation, which is why he had not disclosed any details earlier.
The rapper also alleged that they have been subjected to blackmail these past few days and that they are "ready to fight to the end".
He also expressed sadness over Hsieh's death and alleged that the ambulance came almost an hour late.
