fall 2013 is the year of the spinoff shows. no guessing, it's from 'the vampire diaries'. the pilot was shown as part of tvd4. not very hot. vampire fatigue already. one seasoner vibe. :( who's sticking with tvd?

watch the backdoor series, watchable not complicated but it will be different from the pilot that airs this Oct 3, 2013

Source

sidenote :

The Originals premieres on Oct 3 at 9PM and moves to its regular night and time, Tuesdays at 8 PM, beginning on Oct 8, 2013

The Originals will be its own show independent of TVD , Source

The Vampire Diaries - a love triangle between two brothers who have been sort of estranged but the love for the same woman brings them back

The Originals - more on family unity, power of family, redemption & the love triangles would be those born organically out of the characters and the chemistry between actors.

Exclusive: Daniel Gillies discusses 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'The Originals'

But I think that the show is darker, more adult. I think that there's going to be a lot more enchantment and magic to it, because of the New Orleans setting that we have to fulfil. And I think that we're going to see a lot more warfare. Kind of strategic... it's going to be a battle to reclaim this kingdom. A borderline mafia type battle with Elijah and Klaus usurping their former kingdom.

kinda share the same sentiments. :s13:

when a tv network sits to long a tv show, it's usually not good news.

but who knows, the show might turn out a gem. me gotta see pilot and assess from there.

‘The Originals’ premiere: The Mikaelsons’ bloody arrival in New Orleans, Marcel’s secret weapon, an ending you won’t see coming, and 7 more spoilers from ‘Always and Forever’ - Zap2it - September 20, 2013

the-originals-cast-photo.jpg

10 spoilers :

1. If you're worried that you are four seasons behind and need to play catch up before watching "The Originals," we can assure you that you won't be lost if you have yet to see a single episode of "The Vampire Diaries" (wait, you people actually exist?). There is heavy exposition in the opening scene to introduce the Mikaelsons and their history for new viewers. Fear not, "Vampire Diaries" virgins, you'll be all caught up in just a few short, bloody minutes.

2. For those fans who can't get enough of Elijah, this is an episode you'll want to watch over and over and over again. And for "TVD"/"The Originals" newbies, get ready to meet your new favorite character -- a vampire who can remain polite and full of old-school manners and sophistication, even after massacring a whole crew of men.

3. Since the episode was completely re-shot to tell Elijah's story of how and why he returns to New Orleans, we get a better look at just how different he is from his younger brother Klaus when it comes to handling situations. Whereas Klaus just uses violence and murder to get what he wants no matter the consequences, Elijah works the crowd, and tries to find a compromise through negotiation. It's much more strategic and clever, and yields much better results.

4. For "TVD"/"The Originals" newbies, though you can start watching the premiere with no prior knowledge of the universe, we do recommend watching the backdoor pilot that aired as a "Vampire Diaries" episode in April. "The Originals" premiere skips over a few key scenes of that episode to allow for other, important, new scenes to take place.

5. These new scenes include a longer, more in depth look at what Klaus had to go through after his first kill as a vampire back in the day, a.k.a. when he awakened his werewolf side and his father learned Klaus wasn't his child. Hello, Sebastian Roche! We've missed you (RIP Mikael Mikaelson).

6. Rebekah won't arrive in New Orleans until episode 2, but she is in the premiere. Watching Elijah work so desperately to convince her that Klaus needs their help paints you a pretty great picture of these siblings' relationships.

7. Speaking of siblings, Klaus and Elijah's relationship as brothers gives a whole new meaning to sibling rivalry, particularly in one, action-packed scene.

8. We will come to learn more about Marcel's secret weapon against the witches in New Orleans, and what is revealed in just one, short scene in the premiere will surprise you ... and raise a ton of questions.

9. Camille, the human psychology grad student, only has a quick cameo in this version of the premiere, but she piques Elijah's interest with her swift and accurate analysis of Klaus.

10. That. Ending. Whoa. You definitely do not want to miss the last 30 seconds.

"The Originals" premieres Thursday, Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. ET before moving to its permanent time slot on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

'Originals' Exclusive: Haybekah's Bloody Discovery | ETonline.com - October 16, 2013
The Originals staked out its highest ratings to date with last night's excellent episode and I've got good news: Klaus & Co. are just getting started!

ETonline scored an exclusive photo from the fifth episode, titled Sinners and Saints (written by Julie Plec and Marguerite "Sheriff Forbes" MacIntyre), as Hayley, Rebekah and Sophie stumble upon a field of bloody bodies

After Sophie reveals a troubling secret from her past, the trio set off on a solo mission as Marcel and Klaus head to the bayou when a similarly gruesome scene is discovered. Meanwhile, while Marcel is away, Davina confides in an unexpected ally and reveals shocking information about the witches, ultimately leading to a disturbing revelation.

Before Sinners and Saints airs on October 29, fans will first be treated to Girl in New Orleans (airing 10/22) which features Davina scoring a rare night out ... under the watchful eye of Cami, Hayley visiting a mysterious doctor and Rebekah struggling to understand a strange encounter involving Elijah. Watch a sneak peek!

episode 4 synopsis :

"Girl in New Orleans" - With the annual Dauphine Street music festival around the corner, Davina (Danielle Campbell), itching for a night out, convinces Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) to let her attend. Marcel cautiously obliges but asks Cami (Leah Pipes) to keep a watchful eye on Davina. Agnes (guest star Karen Kaia Livers) convinces Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) to visit a mysterious doctor in the bayou where she makes a shocking discovery. Meanwhile, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) takes a special interest in Cami, who reveals some alarming information about her past, and a determined Rebekah (Claire Holt) is on a mission to get to the bottom of a recent strange encounter involving Elijah (Daniel Gillies.) Daniella Pineda also stars. Jesse Warn directed the episode written by Michelle Paradise and Michael Narducci (#104)

quite sick of the Marcel story arc...
need to move to bigger storylines if they want to keep the audience.

How's the originals compared to the "original" VD line?

VD is becoming so convoluted with unrelated plotlines forcefully smeared in... is there anything new to the originals, or is it just the beef to what we already know from VD?
