Only with certain software but hey, it can mine Monero and supposedly pay for itself in under a year and a half...

Or under 3 years or whatever depending on what's the price in a year and a half...

Although per the technical claim of the reason behind the speed behing L3 cache, wouldn't two Ryzen 1500 be cheaper

AMD must be hoping that their processors will also sell like hotcakes just like their graphic cards for the purpose of Crypto mining.

It is more for data center owners who sometimes have unused CPU capacity, unlike home users who will just shut their pc if not in use.

Or that same rig being stuffed with graphics cards can be upgraded to a thread ripper which mines Monero while the GPUs mine ether. No need extra space or a PSU.

Then AMD gets to hear by flogging them an expensive processor and board.

At least a demand for threadrippers won't affected the rest of us and AMD can easily convert cheapy Ryzens to TR anyway

You should take a look at the servethehome forum, those angmor long time ago already have a sticky thread for mining xmr on their multi socket Xeon workstation n server.....

Not really, the most powerful thread ripper/xeon typically only matches a gtx1060 3gb in mining crypto...

It is more of heh, we got some extra unused CPU time, why not just use it.....

A Ryzen 7 gets about 550h/s which is on par with a 1070.

A Threadripper is much higher.

AMD can make a lot more by selling a threadripper and X299. Definitely more than a Vega card which is costly to make
