How budget is your budget. Hotel rooms are very small in Tokyo so you need to also specify if you can take adjoining rooms or need one family friendly room.

Would be easier (but also a bit riskier) to get an AirBnb for 2 adults 2 small kids for that price range. Lots of the cheaper Tokyo/Japan hotels are business hotels, which mean they cater primarily for 2ppl (max) room.

Good luck with that budget in Tokyo itself, especially if you want a single room for all. First very few hotels have rooms for 4, as it is 3 pax rooms are hard to come by. A hotel room large enough and compliant to regulations for 4 pax is likely only at major hotels with a corresponding price tag.

Airbnb is your best bet, or you will have to reset your expectations and take adjoining rooms.

$150 might be very hard for 4 pax but you can try Ikebukuro, Asakusa and maybe Ueno. There are a few backpacker hostels that are more affordable. For Ikebukuro, look at the North Western part, not the East side.

You can try those dorm with four beds. If you can get the whole area, it will almost like your "own" room. Usually shared bathrooms though.

Know that Japan hotel is small and not cheap. Any family room for 3A2C can recommend Budget less than $300 per night.

I also wanted to visit Tokyo with my wife in January/February but I could not locate an affordable hotel. My friend also recommended me Airbnb but I found that the price ranges are similar to hotel rooms in Tokyo.

He also recommended Sunroute Hotel but the website seems to be out of order. :s13:

What's your budget? Sunroute isn't cheap as its near shinjuku station.
