I am looking to buy a gaming lappy for 15 yrs old my son. He only plays LOL & Minecraft. I know only LOL demands little more GPU. However, I'm anticipating more demanding games soon with his age group & peers. :s8:

I'm caught between Aftershock & MSI :s11: (like that both have lit colored KB, alum casing). Read various remarks, hence each has it's own merits & deficiencies. My budget is about $2,200 for either a 15" or 17". Weight is not critical. Preference is short future proof (knowing how fast tech progresses).
Of course most important is excellent heat dissipation.

Hope someone can enlighten me :s22:. Thank you.

i think with a 2.2k budget hard to get future proof cos the machines that use the higher-end graphics (970M, 980M) are in a higher price range.

Assuming the use case continues to be games like LOL and Minecraft, a midrange laptop with the 960M will be fine and should be within budget, but going into graphically demanding games like Witcher, Assassins Creed, etc won't be a viable option.

Thanks for the feedback.
Reason why I stated about $2.2k is because I read Aftershock S-15 quoted $2136 & S-17 at $2272, both with i7 4720HQ + GTX 970M 3GB GDDR5 Graphics. I am still checking out on MSI ... :o

do check out the asus G751 too. within your budget and comparable to those you mentioned. Excellent heat dissipation.

Can consider topping up a few hundred for the higher end model - extra ram, bigger ssd and 980m gtx.

Prefer MSI over Aftershock. Using it for over 2 years, no complains. Use lappy would not be future proof la. My friend says need to clean the fan frequently so the lappy will not run too hot.

Would recommend msi ..im more of a pc enthuiast but however msi quality n sleek design/ weight was what made mi venture into laptop. i was using msi gs60 for 1yr+ with the older 870m.. still able to support current latest game. There was once i brought it to gaming event and a passby girl stop and took a few min examining my laptop n commented it looks cool and we strike up a conversation next :)

Uncle canonrow, better not buy MSI or all the chiobu chase him :s12:

On a more serious not, it is best to bring him to the IT Fair (next one is Comex 3-6SEP).
Let him try out both brands and buy one below 2k. I feel it;s not worth it to buy above 2k unless you're super rich since teenages have a high chance to spill something or drop their latops :D

Hey man, if you're still looking for the lappy,
I highly recommend Aftershock S-15 970m.

I'm getting one myself and infact here are my specs.
Due to Comex 2015, Price is $2178, even lesser then your $2,200 budget.
These guys even replied my emails at 3.30am!! I seriously doubt you will get such service from MSI tbh.

Cheers!

both brands equally good, depends on what you want to use the laptop mainly for.

If you really want to make him happy each time he opens up the laptop to see a Chroma keyboard and if you need a light laptop, GS60 is a good choice lolx.
