The 2950x refreshed is interesting. If it is 4.4ghz, they have the fastest chip comparable to all the intel hedt chips that stuggling with temps issue.

It would mean that this new 28-core, if it comes out at 265W TDP, is likely to be a super high bin of the part. Of course, this will come with a higher cost.
Intel 28-core TDP might be higher than AMD 32-core.

I was using Slot1 and socket 771 SMP system in the past for complex computing and rendering, Retired both system long ago but kept the motherboard and processor in the storeroom.
For most SOHO system, SMP is no longer necessary with today powerful single processor. The TDP and heat was a big headache running SMP system. Now no longer engage in complex computing and 3D rendering. I shun system with high TDP, my key working PC in my office is running a 35w 2120T processor without graphic card. Never ever need to worry about system overheat whatsoever, peace of mind.![]()

I think depends on the usage. Plus, it is higher for sure, but when given the right load, it completes the task much faster and go into idle mode.
Then you should just consider getting a laptop. This is as low power as you can get since it can go as low as 4.5W.
If one don't need such a cpu, a cheap <45W cpu is more than enough. Why you need >150W? There are only 2 groups of people who will buy cpus with high TDP. First, because i need. Second, because i want.
