What should I do to prepare my laptop for a trade-in to ensure that the laptop is fully cleared of data for security purposes? Thanks in advance!

secure erase the hdd (just google it, many tutorials). However, if you have nothing too confidential or top secret, you can just reformat it.

p.s if you really do have top secret stuff and is working for a company of some sort, they will have their own protocol as to what to do with the hdd.
