I have been trading for 2-3 years. My trading markets are mainly FX, commodities and equities. I’d usually look at daily/hourly charts. Main strategy is to tackle trending markets.

I feel that my trading mindset is more or less trained. But the problem is it’s hard for me to grow my capital. It’s like I don’t lose much but I don’t win much too.

Wondering if I should continue.

What are your returns (and your Sharpe ratio) like?

It’s not really fair to compare a long-short strategy with a long-only equity index, so I wouldn’t benchmark yourself against that; but I’d say if you’re not getting at least a few hundred bps over cash then it’s not worth the effort of trading all day long.

Frankly speaking, it’s not too bad, sometimes just one trade alone can gain about 2-3x or even 4-5x. Problem is usually after a big win, a string of small losses will come.

How on earth are you not "winning much" if you are making trades that net you 4-5x?

i been trading for ard 5 years, i burst my 1st account with US$2k

now on my 2nd account for 2 years my green pips are like 80% more then red if u look at the history,

but 2 weeks ago, i almost lost 50% of all my account balance in a single day, i did not put stop loss, and just let it run by it self and held on for 2 weeks in a desperate/hopeless attempt, now i close with profit of 1%+ only

i even told myself if it ever bounce back, i will quit forex for good...

but now im still in it.... :s8: :(

When you trade, you always do a risk analysis of that position isn't it? What's the upside versus the downside.

Then do a risk analysis of your trading style. What are the benefits? High returns, quick cash, etc

What are the downside? Stress, taking too much time, sudden huge losses, etc.

Worth it to continue this style? Personally, it is not worth to do short term trades.

You’re right. That’s why I do long term trades. I seldom spend time on the charts. Only look at them when I need to move my trailing stops or scour for opportunities.

It is just that my trading strategies are a bit limited.

I used to scalp the market. Didn’t set stop loss as well.
Hate it because the tail risk was too high.

We don't know how much you are making.

If your capital is $100k and you can make more than $15-$30k a year, then I would say it is worth sticking to the strategy.

If you make below $10k a year, then it is not worth. You might as well buy and hold IWDA shares.

no idea what you mean by dont lose much or win much.

its just whether you are a profitable trader or not.
assuming you are a profitable trader, so it just means you dont have enough capital.

find part time job put most of the money you earn into your trading account.

there's no other way unless you want to increase your position size/lot size or leverage.
