Paramount has officially announced at CinemaCon 2024 that a crossover movie featuring both Transformers and G.I. Joe characters will be released in theaters sometime in 2025 or 2026. This announcement came after a teaser for the crossover was shown during the ending credits of the recent Transformers film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
It’s an event decades in the making and we’ve seen the crossover happening in various forms with the material firmly established with toys and comic books.
The merger of Hasbro’s two most iconic 1980s franchises, Transformers and G.I. Joe, into a shared universe, was a highly anticipated event that captured widespread attention back in the day. The basic premise was simple – the G.I. Joe team would team up with the Autobots to prevent the villainous Cobra organization and the Decepticons from conquering the world together.
Apart from the movie becoming a reality, we learned that Steven Spielberg will be an executive producer on the project and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy will serve as producers.
With an experienced producing team pulling the strings, the hope is that director Steven Caple, Jr. will be back into the driving seat. Based on our read and internet chatter, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was seen as a success amongst the community but it faltered at the box office. The film garnered a $436 million haul worldwide but failed to beat Travis Knight’s 2018 spin-off Bumblebee which amassed $465 million.

As we await the next live-action movie to hit the big screen, Transformers One, the first animated film in the franchise after nearly four decades, made its trailer debut as well at CinemaCon. The full trailer will be released 18 April 2024 and it features the likes of Chris Hemsworth voicing Orion Pax, a young Optimus Prime and he’s joined by Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson voicing D-16, a young Megatron, and Elita-1 respectively.
