I booked a hotel from trip.com and realised agoda has a much cheaper rate. I raised this with the customer service and they credited the difference as trip coins to me as per below.

My question is now that the coins are in my account, can I go ahead to cancel anyway and rebook on agoda? It still allows me to cancel for free

Immoral I know but if it is a common practice then why not right

"Considering the inconvenience caused, we would like to offer a compensation of 1847 Trip Coins for you. We can process the Trip Coins directly to your Trip.com account, and they cannot be recalled. Once you agree with this, you will receive them very soon within 1 working day. These coins have a validity of 18 months after they reach your account, and they can be used for your future bookings on Trip.com."

I think it doesn't affect the cancellation of the hotel.

Coins is credited to account and not to the booking itself.

I have heard not so pleasant user feedback.on trip. I'm not sure about that as it was in web.

In one hotel check-in, front counter advised against trip due to their previous experience.

So far, I've not used trip due to these reviews and comments.

Any other opinions?

My preference:

Direct with airline or hotel as I have loyalty membership
Followed by Expedia, Booking.
Agoda is really a last resort.

For my case, coins only credit in AFTER the stay

I would not recommend tr1p.com

They screwed up My flight and hotel booking

I would recommend booking directly with the airlines and hotel or with other sites

They do overcharge and it will not be a pleasant experience when you find out you can get a cheaper rate at the airlines website or hotel website.whats the point of having such a website if I can purchase directly at cheaper price?

Bear in mind if you book with tr1p.com, the airlines and hotel will tell you to call tr1p.com if Any issues arise. Thn they will discuss with the airlines and hotel.

This takes extra time.
