it is just a short moment of clearing up/hiding things not to be seen by auditors.

after that whether to comply standards is a doubt.

Trust... perhap the word "effectiveness" is more appropriate.

In SG some practice as you mentioned, some even beyond the scope. Good QA are hard to find, and good QA need management support.

In Eu or USA, some companies take it as part of their policy; and ISO is only part of the entire company policy.

While the west has champion many initiatives, they also do it for their own objectives. Asian, especially Singaporean copy blindly and 'worship' whatever they preach blindly.

ISO basically try to document what you do hoping that these procedures will be maintained. Many organization think it is quality certification. Now we are singing the CSR and the 'consultants' are selling their expertise here. When will we start to wise up?

You are right. Problem is some process may be aged and not applicable to current situation. But it still get a pass status.
The whole ISO ideal is to document the process. They does not care about the effectiveness.

Overzealous auditors looking for glory scanning for findings. Short-sighted organisations using ISO to boost image or fulfill KPIs.

There's nothing wrong with ISO.

There's everything wrong with the people dealing with ISO. It's supposed to help organisations improve and strive towards a specific level of quality/maturity. Instead...

It is the lack of knowledge on ISO and misconception being portray by consultants. ISO already 'outdated' now people are talking about CSR and Environmental. Both sound very noble but again and sadly manipulated. Organizations just blindly 'buy' by paying to get certificates.

If you are referring to ISO9001... it's not outdated, it's been reviewed over years. It's just an International Standard. ISO9001 is a Quality Management System, but it's doesn't tell you the product/service quality but your management system meet the basic operation need.

As for CSR, Environment (EMS 14001), Energy or OHSAS, BCM, 13485, TS16949... all consider International Standard, they are for specify area or industry.

Interesting fact, EMS, OHSAS, 13485 etc; most of their foundation based on ISO9001 approach. E.g, EMS can be part of Supply Chain which is under ISO9001 Supplier Evaluation. Yet it can be part of Infrastructure such as Preservation and Storage, and can become part of OHSAS. And all this can be Business Risk Assessment like BCM. :s22:

The unfortunate thing that is happening here is that people are bending to meet the so called ISO standard rather than writing what they are doing. By adopting a template does not mean you have a structured framework. Each time when they need to be audited, they try to match the documentation.

It is a very sad situation and people are following blindly. Once upon a time, you see big advertisement when a company achieved ISO certification. Today you see less as the industry understand what this is about when they got thei with little efforts.

Sad fact is that most companies do not have continual improvement mindset in place and think/hope that ISO can help them address it. This is actually a cultural and/or organisational change where most companies fare badly. Changing process and technology is easy. It's always changing the people's mindset that's difficult.
