Name on boarding pass/air ticket

Hi all,

I made a booking with Turkish Airlines through expedia and only key in my first and last name (i know abit foolish of me but expedia site never mention full name)

Hence i keyed in:
First Name: John
Last Name: Tan

I never key in my Chinese name when my full name is for eg. John Tan Ah Ming.

I emailed the airline and expedia and told them to amend but both of them asked me to cancel and rebook the air ticket which cost 1k!:eek:

was wondering if any of you have such experience? are the airport counters particular about the full name? i read that middle name in ang moh countries are not important, not so sure if that's the case with chinese name.

i dont want to try my luck to check in and get rejected as i'm going to book my accommodations and tours.

pls advice!

When you do a cancellation and rebook, you get back the airfare paid (DUH), provided it's a refundable fare. Else just pay the name change fee. Alternatively, if the airline is nice enough, they will input in the booking PNR that 'name should read as John Tan Ah Ming'. Also, at check-in the check-in staff can print your booking pass as 'John Tan Ah Ming'.

Or call TK at the following and speak to a ticketing officer.

Tel: +65 6732 4556.
Tel: +65 6734 4477 (Administration)
Fax: +65 6733 8845.
Email: management@thy.com.sg.

the thing is my fare is not refundable :look: and they asked me to cancel and forfeit my air ticket to rebook a new one.

trust me, i tried every avenue and got bounced around like a basketball.
email and called expedia told them my name is not complete, they diverted me to turkish airlines as they can't change the tic. called turkish airline and they mentioned the inclusion of 2 words inside is too much and they can't amend the name then asked me contact expedia to contact their sales office.

apparently, TK is not so nice and mentioned that there is too many syllabus to put inside the remarks/comment section of the ticket. and really they want me to just cancel and FORFEIT my 1k airfare. :s39:

i emailed their head office in Turkey. not so sure if anything can be done :\

thanks for the management email. i will try sending my case to them. that's y im asking ard to see if the airport counters are very particular about the chinese name portion and hoping someone have some insights to share

give TK a call is your best bet now

TK is not so helpful. TBH i dont mind paying a bit to change the name, but to forfeit the whole tic is jus so irrational.

Then you just get TK to add in your initials, aka John Tan AM.

I have booked tickets as Tan/John and flew without issues. Sometimes the check-in staff will issue the boarding pass as per the name on my passport.

It also depends on where you are going/transiting.

To the US and UK, it's better to follow the name as in your passport. Heathrow seems really particular, even on return flights, itinerary and lodging.

update to all from TK:

"We have reviewed your case and is following up with Expedia.
As a gesture of goodwill from the management, we have agreed to allow you to send the old ticket for refund without any charges from our end excluding the service charges of Expedia, on the condition that a new set of tickets is purchased.

In the International Air Transport Association ruling, any names/alphabets amendments are not allowed after tickets has been issued."

well at least i can travel with a peace of mind now, of cos the itinerary price is slightly different but i think it's alright!

thanks dilphinus for your inputs!
