Sony 65X90J, 3 years 9 months ... (note: replace panel after close to 2 years, and replace power board ~6 months later)

In the middle of a watch, the screen is quickly fade to black only sound remaining. Power cycle it doesn't work. The TV can only produce sounds and respond to remove. I tried to see if I can see any image, but using the brightest light on my phone still does not show anything. I put a gentle knock on the screen and can see a burst of light.

My thought
* It's NOT main board: can power on and reach dashboard, response to remote when I change to TV
* It's NOT backlight: ??? since I can't see any display at all. How to confirm this? probably need to open it up, right?

Can it be t-con board only?

If not, anyone can recommend repair service?

Looks like no hope. TV panel is gone. Repair with Sony would be ~900 and with only 3 months warranty. Considering both panels failed in less than 2 years, 3 months warranty seems extremely risky.

any idea how much it will cost to repair sony tv? my model is 55X9500G from 2019. currently, there are sound coming from
the tv but no picture at all. called sony support and tried power reset and factory reset but to no avail. dun think is led backlight issue as can see a glow when go to home menu. sony also say the parts are no longer in production.

i am thinking whether to just get x90L during black friday instead of spending money to repair. just getting technician to come down will cost $224, excluding of any parts if required

have a repair guy came down and find out that the tcon board is not working. however, there seem to be a drop in image quality after replacing it. the left and right side are now slightly different. did not went for the replacement in the end. was wondering where to buy the tcon board and maybe i can diy and fix it myself.

I have a 55X9000F same issue as yours. When power on Greyish display panel, front white LED is still lit so there power to it.

I think should be T-CON board related failure, so not sure should I contact third-party for the on-site repair or just buy a new TV since is already a 7 yrs old Bravia.

X90J mainboard died last week.

Kudos to tvpartstoday.com for having replacement parts and highlighting the gotchas of sony hardware. Who would have thought the mainboard and tcon actually need to be paired by updating the firmware.

Shipping was S$70 fedex but all in I spent S$228 (mainboard, tcon, led driver, shipping might was well get everything). I only really needed the mainboard but might as well get the other parts as spares. Skipped power board since it was probably US voltage.

* big warning here: part numbers are not exactly the same. The x90j board they have has 2 extra audio jacks, not a big deal just drill some holes in the port cover.

The bigger problem was the tcon, luckily the old one is fine. Part number different and the power connector is very slightly different. TD001 on mine, the one from the shop is TD00Q. It looks like the pinout is the same so if really necessary can shave a bit of the plug to make it fit, or source another power cable.

If you're willing to try and muscle your tv onto a flat surface and do some surgery this might be the route for you. For $228 and some sweat I felt its worth doing.

Nice - you are very capable. When my X90J died, I got enough back from the warranty to replace it. Good job repairing your kit and extending it's life.

burn in cannot be repaired, short of replacing the panel. try running the pixel cleaning function a few times to see if it improves the situation.
