Well depends on how you are getting there. If going to Tokyo before reaching Sapporo, I would highly recommend it.

But even if you are going Sapporo straight, there are plenty of shops there. You just need something warm and windproof for the first day to go to the shops. Get one set of thermals, one sweater, a windbreaker and a warm hat to last you until you reach the shops. There are plenty of shops around the train station.

this is what I feel and I already checked in tokyo and sapporo
not sure abt ski resort in Hokkiado will sells cheaper or not hahaha

if you have the spare time upon reaching chitose, can drop by rera outlet mall to see if there's any suitable one. i know prices for timberland are relatively cheaper than in sgsin.

my first trip to tokyo in Jan I weat longjohn and leather jacket

my 2nd trip to tokyo n sapporo
I only wear pant longhorn and my northface down in Dec but Dec in sapporo is snow and ice and minus 9

my 3 round I just went in Nov ,2011 to sapporo
is minus ,2 this time I only northface and no longjohn

I doubt tokyo will have minus temp
so just use your down depend on what type of down u got some is paper thin some is thick
some is thin but filling is 900 like northface diez model but cost 580 sgd but in jp will cost u double


I tink u r safe with down n go uniqlo buy it heat tech lor

I will be going Hakone & Kawaguchi area before Tokyo.

I have a Uniqlo down (not the light one) and a a few wool long sleeves.

Maybe I go get one first from Uniqlo here.. and see whether I need more later in Tokyo..

just get glove
n wool socks
u OK at least got the thicker uniqlo down
as the ultra thin uniqlo is too paper thin

I have a anti-odour spray from Taiwan (xiao bao bei), I just spray inside and let it air-dry for a few days. so far it works.
