what happen if i put in the 5600g which is not support by the MB? will it work better than 3600? just curious.

Is not the MB doesn't support but the BIOS.
If BIOS isn't updated so the MB can support new CPU, it won't post.
As the new CPU isn't recognized by the MB BIOS.

The BIOS only support up to 3600 only.

Update the BIOS first before upgrading to the new 5600G.

Is not yet but B350 doesn't support the entire 5000 series cpu.
Your only option will be 3000 series.

your motherboard does not seem to be in the list of upcoming (beta)bios releases for 300 series*, 400 series*, and 500 series motherboards that will support vermeer(zen3 / 5000 series cpus).

Also I've taken the liberty to check the latest bios on MSI site for your motherboard and indeed only 3000 series cpus are supported for your board.

Hi, Thank alot for the help. i was thinking if 5000 series update would be coming out in a few months, then i rather wait for the update as 5600 and 3600 seem to be the same price at ~$300 and with higher performance.

If you want to upgrade to 5600 suggest get a new mobo like B550M.
Take note you may need to upgrade the RAM also as cpu like AMD Ryzen 3600 supports
up to DDR4-3200.

Not sure what is the current RAM you are using, memory speed does affect AMD CPU performance.

for the AMD 5000 series CPU meaning may be not stable.
If you have budget and want to go upgrade to 5000 series, a new motherboard will be better than waiting for the new BIOS.

my ram is just 3200.. so no worries.

No problem so if you want to salvage the PC just upgrade the CPU to AMD Ryzen 3000 series.
Else will be complete overhaul.

I believe TS can still opt for 5000 series in better upgrade path in term of value proposition against 3000 series.

Beta bios only means it will be better and more stable bios available in near future to accommodate the system stability.

yes, you are right on this. the only question is when will the beta be out? haha have to see if i can wait or not.

although i never use MSI, but my experience on both Giga and Asus board for beta bios was they should be fairly stable, as if you running at stock while awaiting the stable release of bios it should not give you too much issue.

those with issue are normally overclock system be it cpu or ram when comparing to previous version of bios which they already familiar with.

given the motherboard limitation, 5600g is best suit your usage as it is up to pcie 3 with igpu in case you need it for future support purposes.

unless you have plan for future motherboard upgrade or replacement then current pricing at Amazon SG I would suggest go for 5600x.

Online reviews shown the 5600X is about 10% faster than 5600G in multi-threaded benchmark, probably not noticeable in actual uses. With hi end gfx gaming, the difference can be 30% or more. with RX580 i don't think you can see that much. Unless you going to change motherboard, the PCIe 3.0 limitation of 5600G is a no concern.

I myself just tbought a 5600G for S$250 from Amazon SG, got it for the Vega iGPU. From my own experience, GFX card always fail before CPU. With the still crazy price of GFX card, as a casual gamer, I just don't see the reason to spend that much on a card that would most likely outlived by CPU. Used to buy only 2nd hand card but that price also went crazy, eg. I bought a GTX970--3 years old--for $70 3 years ago, now the same 6~7 years old card is >2x the cost on 2nd hand market. Before someone told me used card will die faster, true, but loosing $100~$200 is a no brainer than loosing $300~$600, and thats pre-mining craze price.

You have to update the BIOS first in order to use the 5000 series.
However if you want a stable PC I would suggest look for AMD 3600 CPU instead of 5000 CPU.
BETA Bios or early BIOS may have issues or not stable, if it were me I won't take the risk.

If you want to upgrade to 5000 series, I still recommend upgrade the motherboard as well.
Than the old AMD 3 2200G and motherboard sell away for around $200 - $300.
Example of bundle like Gigabyte Aorus B550M Elite with Ryzen 5 5600 - $461

New motherboard will be stable with the AMD 5000 series as well as new feature like PCIE 4.0
if you want to upgrade the graphic card in the future.
