Was wondering if I should upgrade my rig. Though I don't on my PC daily, would need advise if I could get a cheap upgrade to high i3 or mid i5 rig.

Current rig:
Q6600
ASUS P5QL PRO
Radeon™ HD5570
HyperX 2GB x2
SSD 840 EVO 250GB
Cooler Master(650W)

Perhaps a mATX? Mainly using it for watching videos and surfing the web.
Will be using back my SSD. Maybe power supply and graphics?

Not sure if current market's on board is equal or even better than my old graphics card.

The usage of a pc is at bare minimal. I would suggest that you keep it and continue using it.

Q6600 is actually not a shabby cpu tbh.

Q6600 is still a very decent quad core CPU that can run pretty much any games currently.

Pair with a GTX 970/980 and your rig can still last for another 3-4 years.

Actually i beg to differ.

Strictly saying for gaming purpose... Unless overclocked the q6600 will lose to even a modern dual core pentium (haswell). It will just bottleneck the gtx 970/980 recommended... besides the lack of modern usb3 sata6 pci e3 functionality. (Im not even saying nvem...)
Also the p45 mb probably does not have support for uefi graphics card u are going to run into compatibility problems with modern day gpu...

The boot up time and power consumption also belongs to anothet era...

Just retire the core2 sell it and get a cheap modern platform. It has passed its time.

But if ts really want to save money. Yes u can use it for surfing. Can u do better for 200 to 300 sgd (u can probably sell yr kit for maybe 80 to 100). Yes.

Will u notice the difference. Yes. (In fact from the moment u boot up.. haha)

That is if he is even gaming. But he just wants a rig to watch videos, and web surfing.

Problem is I don't think selling this will fetch a high price also...

If only op sees the value in upgrading then upgrade lorh.

Well if bro here are recommending gtx 970/980. Im just stating a fact that q6600 does not cut it.

Yes of course can still surf internet la but system experience will be different with minimal cost upgrade. Ts can decide what his prorities are

good to get a gtx 970.
You see problem with hwz-ers we often read out of context

If he gaming I rather he upgrade because spending 500+ with the rest so old like not very nice

But problem is ts mentioned he doesnt game, only surf net and video. Does he need a better gpu then? If normal usage can just keep current set up. If want something new not a problem, but give current usage, not an issue.

While finaltidus echoed that the rig would be relevant if ts throws in a 980/970, it doesn't mean that he advised so. He is trying to show that q6600 is very relevant.

If ts gian new features like m.2 ddr4 all these nonsense, by all means can and should do upgrade.

Despite the age of the com you have, there is no need to rush to upgrade since its still works for you. Unless you are experiencing performance issue watching some shows, otherwise no harm sticking on to it.

Really very thankful for all the advises.
Surprisingly, Q6600 was better than I expected.

Did not expect it to be an acceptable CPU at this point of time as I have been using it for years.

I was actually intending to get an mITX with small casing with a budget below $300. Is there any mITX onboard graphics that is better than my current graphics card?

On the other hand, would also like to know if having a new mITX, is it more energy saving? With the current technologies, I believe there could be a difference.

Not really much though. Pc dont take a lot of power when there is no full load. It doesnt really consume much power unless gaming, or doing an intensive task.

The thing is that, if you intend to switch to a smaller board, it is as good as redoing the entire pc.
