Dear All Experts,

My setup includes a Yamaha RX S601 amp and Boston acoustics XS 5.1, with sub that can’t be powered up anymore.

What is a recommended step up / upgrade over this ?

For watching movies and music.
In a typical old HDB 5 room - living room setup.

Some recommended that I keep the Yamaha and pair it with a definitive passive sound bar. And Rcs ceiling spearkwe and a minime ff8 sub.

another package I saw is with denon amp and Bowers 606 / 607 speakers setup.

kind of confused.

Thanks in advance

It doesn't sound like you have a large budget, you can consider recycling the amp if it work, there's a sale at X Audio, google for it and there are deals on speakers right now

5k for 5.1 channels and a AV amp and some basic cables can be done, talk to your shops and ask for their suggested sets, which come as a package and can be cheaper.
Go see the X Audio set and do your own homework on costs bro..
