Hi guys

I don't know if there's already a thread on this, so sorry in advance if there's already thread on this, please do let me know and link me to the thread.

I've never own a MacBook, this is my first MacBook pro. I was really wanting a laptop after I accidentally stepped on my VAIO laptop which damaged my LCD screen ): so I was really eager to purchase my first MacBook when my mum asked me.

I screenshot the mac that I wanted and sent it to her, I didn't realized the difference between the options how dumb. what I didn't realized was the little flash storage my mac has.

All along I was only concerned whether if I should upgrade the ram or the processor but forgotten totally about the flash storage.

Also, the fact that I am installing Bootcamp (already did) for my MacBook due to various reasons, I would need more space.

My question is, is it possible to do an upgrade for this? if so, where am I suppose to go? sorry for the long ass thread, I tried to be as specific as I can, and also please pardon my English. ):

p/s: my mac is two days old.

Where you bought it? What's the model? Changing the flash storage as DIY or outside Apple service center, As far as I know, will void the warranty.

Your Mac is 2 days old! If it was bought from Apple Online Store, do know you can return it for full refund, no questions asked.

If this is a Retina MacBook Pro, unfortunately, there are no compatible flash modules available yet at this time.

from the online store, the model is A1502. I got it about two days ago. So, there's no way i can upgrade it by not voiding the warranty?

thanks for the reply tho. :)

You can return the MBP to Apple since you purchased it at the online store.

Best call Apple to check if there is any T & C like does the returned item requires original packaging and such.

No way. ;-)

Call Apple tomorrow and explain to them that you need more disk space. Their customer service rep are usually polite. As mentioned below, you can request Apple for a return and replace with the appropriate one that you need. Goodluck!

Yes, you can return in within 14 days. No questions asked. I.e. you don't even need to give a reason/excuse. With original packaging and everything intact of course.

This is one of the perks of buying directly from Apple.

Yes you can return it within 14 days.
However i don't see how changing the flash drive voids the warranty.

Not sure about the Retina Macs but in the older versions,
Apple publicly post a guide on how to change your RAM & SSD.
It even states in the manual that upgrading will not void applecare

Even so, you could easily swap the ssd back to the original when sending to apple for repairs etc.

The fact that Apple puts in the proprietary pentalobe screws on the Retina models at the back panel tells us we are not supposed to touch it. ;-)

But true, In other (older) version of Macbooks, yes, the HDD and RAM are user-replaceable. Not anymore in these beasts due to the slimmer design (RAMs are soldered, flash storage are proprietary - not like ordinary SSDs.)

hi

I've sent my previous macbook pro back, they even sent a delivery guy up to my doorstep to collect the mbp. I've then placed another order and it was shipped to me the following day. Thanks! ^_^

Glad it worked out. Wish we could have more of these sort of online stores in SG! :)
