Hello, I am looking to upgrade the processor + motherboard soon from the below specs:

AMD Phenom II x4 B60 3.30GHz
Biostar A880G+
8Gb Ram
GTX 670
1080p 21.5" monitor

With a budget of $500, what is the lowest cost option for processor + motherboard + ram (if needed to change) for an i7 build? Not looking to do overclocking

Currently, I get 60fps on GTA 5 on High settings with distance scaling turned off but it is not constant in the city area. In dota 2, there are spikes where the frames reached 30+ fps (I suspect it is due to slow processor) when I scroll around to view the map.

Hope to be able to turn up the graphics more on GTA 5 and have more AI moving around

Knowing that DDR3 & DDR4 ram has minimal difference, can you recommend a processor + motherboard for DDR3?

well i still prefer if u get skylake though, but if u still want ddr3 i have options for u though, but 1st u need to make sure that your ram is those half the height or what we called the low voltage.

if there is u can go either haswell processor or skylake processor. (skylake is the lastest gen and haswell is 2 gen earlier than skylake.)

performance wise not much differences. just that which one would u want.

If you really want an i7 with a $500 budget, only way is to go for 2nd hand cpu + mobo.

It's almost impossible to get a skylake i7 + mobo + upgrading to ddr4 ram with a $500 budget right now.

The best bet is to go for haswell i7 4770 + mobo combo. If you are lucky, you can find i7 4790 + mobo combo at $500 price range (similar performance to i7 6700, perhaps even better some might say).

All that I mentioned is for 2nd hand only.

You might be able to get 1st hand through online shops though.
