Hello guys, lets say in the run i decided to add more ram perhaps due to video editing etc. isit better for me to add 2x4gb or change my specs ram to 2x8gb?

if i add i get 4x4gb.

to get 4gb x4, you have to get the identical ones(same brand and specs) as the previous ones.

If you don't you risk ram not loading or run at the ram w/ the lower speed.
The risk is low though. And if 1 ram fails, all will fail. Meaning the point of ram failure increases.


8gb x2 would be ideal but you have to fork out more. maybe sell your old 4gb x2 and get new ones lor or if you can find 2nd hand ones that is identical to your speed(MHz) and timing, then you can try risk it. Should be fine though, just make sure you put the pair of rams in the same color slots(A1,A2 | B1, B2)

Just remember it will run at the lowest speed, so if you have 1600 RAM now, don't bother shelling out for 2400.

If you're worried, buy from a store with a good return policy; at least if your old RAM doesn't like your new RAM, you can exchange it.

im pretty sure all rams have lifetime warranty, so get used ones. If they are faulty, just RMA them. Don't need receipt.

Depends on yourself. I believe you trying to save money so just go for 4gb x2. Check your current rams. if they are 4gb x2 1600mhz with the CL timings eg: 9-9-9-24. Try to get the same ones.

Even better if you can find the near exact ones.
Don't forget to clean the pins with alcohol(for electronics) as usually used ones are dirty at the connector(from dust)

my past experience was I had 1gb x2 running on 1600mhz 9-9-9-24. I wanted to upgrade to 4gb(on 32bit)

so I bought my friend's 1gb x2 running on 1333mhz same timings.

it worked fine as long I put the same pairs on the same dual channel slots.

No problems but ran on 1333mhz.

Just be careful when adding more ram past the 16GB limit. Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit has a ram limit of up to 16GB only. Only Professional and above has a limit of 192GB. I made that mistake when I tried to get 24GB ram in my com. Win 7 would put it as 24GB installed (16GB usable). And sometimes that would screw up my games, there were memory dump errors and all.

heng im using wins 7 pro. hahaha. but i thought ram not everything is usable?
