upon reboot HDD keeps becoming empty

I have a regular problem where my 2tb disk becomes empty upon rebooting. Usually the system says the partition and backup partition table are corrupted, even though I use NTFS.
Testdisk doesn't help; in fact once I run testdisk something seems to change and the partition cannot be found anymore upon the next run.

The problem is fixed with difficulty as the files are still there, but it's very troublesome and takes about 1-2 days. I run getdataback and let it detect all the files, then copy all of them to a new hard disk, and then format the original disk and copy everything back.

Does anyone face this problem? What could be the cause? Nothing new was installed recently and this problem happens for no reason. Happened a few times arleady. Is it possible to back up just the partition table, instead of the entire drive, which would require buying another drive to copy to?

Use HDTune to scan for bad sectors, HDD is dying .....

Either the heads are faulty or the platter starts having bad sectors. Copy out the important files and do not reuse this disk. Reformatting will just give you temporary relief. The hardware problems are there and will not go away. Send for RMA.

Check the S.M.A.R.T. status for any critical errors. Anyway, this problem is reason enough to send for RMA regardless of the results of the SMART.
