Using external HD as supporting HDD for SSD?

I'm planning on doing up a simple gaming rig:

• Intel Core i5 3570 & Asrock B75 PRO3 M
• G.Skill DDR3-1600MHz 8GB (2X4GB)
• PowerColor HD 7870 2GB
• Plextor M5 Pro 128GB or Crucial M4 128GB or Intel SSD 335 120GB
• Samsung SATA 24X DVD R
• FSP Aurum 92+ Platinum PT-550M 550W

Just wanna ask:
Most people recommend getting a 120GB SSD and an extra HDD for storage. Can I use my current Western Digital 'My Book' external HD(1TB) instead of having to buy an extra internal HDD?

The external HDD is relatively new and I hate to buy more storage and render it obsolete in my house.

i think direct sata connect will be more stable and reliable..

u can.. but external usb drives are not as fast as internal sata3. assume that u only put ur core windows on the SSD and run ur games from the external HDD, you would want a fast connection between the HDD and ur PC to run the games

You can dismantle the external case, get a SATA cable and install the drive in your case.

If your ext HDD is using USB 3.0, then theres not much problem about speed.
Thus you can go ahead with your setup without having the need to buy an internal hdd.

Theres no right or wrong here, just your own preference.
Nothing to do about stability whatsoever here.

Do I need to take it apart like GrimaH suggested or can I just go ahead and plug in the USB cable?

Just plug in the external hdd. This is what i am running now in office.. one SSD as main OS drive and a external hdd as storage.
