The police warned the public of the re-emergence of phishing scams involving delivery parcels in a statement on May 27.

At least 350 victims have fallen prey to such scams since January this year, with total losses amounting to more than $483,000.

Victims of such phishing scams would receive emails or text messages from scammers impersonating well-known logistics entities such as SingPost.

They would inform the victims that there was a parcel awaiting delivery and instruct them to click on an URL link to make payment.

Upon clicking on the URL links, victims would be re-directed to fraudulent websites where they would be tricked into providing their credit//debit card details and One-Time Password (OTP).

Victims would only realise they had been scammed when they discovered unauthorised transactions made to their credit/debit card.

The police advise members of the public to follow these crime prevention measures:

  • Do not click on URL links provided in unsolicited emails and text messages;
  • Always verify the authenticity of the information with the official website or sources;
  • Never disclose your personal or Internet banking details and OTP to anyone; and
  • Report any fraudulent credit/debit card charges to your bank and cancel your card immediately.
