I went from a HD5850 to a HD6970. Uninstalled all ATI drivers before installing the new card. With the new card, when I boot up, there's no display. And the card fan is running at max speed. After multiple tries, monitor detected the card a couple of times but always get stuck at Windows loading screen. Resetting CMOS doesn't work. Any ideas?

You may try the following to determine what may went wrong.

1. Try DVI or DP ports on your GPU. If it works, it means your HDMI port on gpu is damaged.
2. Try mounting GPU onto a different PCIe slot. If it works, it means that particular pcie slot is damaged.
3. Try with a different gpu.If it works, it means ur 6970 is damaged somehow.
4. Try without gpu and plug same HDMI cable into mobo i/o ports, assuming your cpu has igpu. This will determine if HDMI cable is working or not.
5. Try with another monitor or TV but with the same HDMI cable.

Managed to fix it. What I did was remove the sound card since I already have an external DAC. Then changed the GPU PCI-E slot. Now it's working fine. Which is weird cos the original slot was working fine with my old card.
