Does anyone think the above make sense over their predecessors?

Personally I feel they are downgrade rather than upgrade.
Apart from built-in rechargeable battery, virtually they offer no extra features or function.
In fact to me, built-in rechargeable battery is a downside even.
Probably will cost a lot to replace when it is worn down over time.
Just like my Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard which has a super weak battery now.

The previous gen keyboard and mouse + eneloop rechargeable batteries would be a much better choice. Way cheaper without any compromise.

At least for the keyboard, we can plug in to lightning cable. But for the mouse, *shakes head*.

I have the Magic Mouse 2 which I've changed from the first version due to BT function dead after 5 years of usage.

I'm on the computer around 6 hrs a day on weekdays and sometimes the whole day on weekends. At this usage, the MM 1 on typical Energiser batts, can last around 2 mths before it needs replacement, around the same 2 mths on Sanyo Eneloops before recharging and around 3 mths if using Energiser lithium AA batts.

On MM 2, the same usage can last between 1.5 mths to around 2 mths too. If the internal rechargeable batts have a life cycle of 500 cycles for example, in a year I only recharge 6 times so theoretically, it can last over 83 years.

So how can this be a downgrade? If all internals are working fine, it can last a lifetime but it will not be so, but at least will also last for years. Perhaps before then, you would've upgraded to the next better mouse (e.g. MM 3).

Very true, dunno why Apple wants to place the lightning connector port on the bottom side and not the sides at least. So when need to charge the MM 2, have to place it on its side and charge, while rendering it not usable.

I was convinced too that the battery would last longer than the useful life of the keyboard when I bought diNovo Edge. However, personal experience with it is far from the advertised numbers. Not any where near 25 years. Not even 5 years. That keyboard battery could only last less than 1 hour within less than 5 years of use.

Even with Apple products, my iPhones, Macbook Pro Retina (about 1 year old each) under normal use have battery life a lot less than when they were first used.

Battery quality degenerates after each charging cycle. Can a macbook pro retina can last up to 10 hours of web surfing (as advertised) at battery count of 500 (out of its life of 1000 cycles)? Yet we want to multiple 10hours x 1000 cycles to calculate the numbers?

I supposed these are reasons why I don't have a good feeling with built-in battery. Perhaps also why many people dislike when Apple starts selling products with non user-replaceable batteries.

I'm fine with built-in batts and my previous 2010 MBP had a hard disk failure after over 5 years of use and batt cycle was over 600 with capacity over 90% still. Mind you, the batt is still good.

Specs stated by any computer website is 'up to XX hours', meaning minimum brightness with most things turned off or disabled. Theoretically we can calculate in this manner by multiplying cycles with hours to get lifespan, but that's the max.

Obviously, no one will use their devices with minimum/lowest usage, else would've defeated its purpose. On my current retina MBP I turn on many things with other apps running in background and bluetooth is constantly on for my MM 2, so definitely I wouldn't reach the max hours stated by Apple for batt life, but is sufficient for me.

Last time I used to purchase a spare batt when using Nokia phones and interchange them every time I recharge it to ensure equal usage. But over time I felt it's a waste of money as before I could even use half of each batt's entire charge cycles, I already changed to a new phone.

So I think Apple did make a better move with built-in rechargeable batts as it's for the above reason at least.

Just curious, at 600 batt count, how long can your batt last before it needs to be recharged again vs when the batt is still new at <100 batt count?
Capacity is at 92% for my batt but last 1.5hour on my previous MacBook Pro vs 6hrs when it is fresh. No joy with this kind of so called good capacity.

Cos ur app consume more battery than ever. So as years goes, is logically that it doesn't perform that better already. Ur processor and ram can't catch up with the new apps requirement, therefore they need to work extra hard . With these factors. Even with 90% capacity , it will only last very short while. Unless u Don update your apps or download new apps and OS from the day u bough it.

It still lasts around the same time as battery capacity only drops a bit, but still retains over 90%. On average it can last around 7-8 hrs before it needs recharging.

Keyboard feels weird but doesn't seem to affect touch typing accuracy all that much. I still think the mice are trash. Keyboard and touchpad together look hell sexy.

Maybe Jon Ives likes it? :s13: :s13: :s8:
