Planning for our first trip to Japan in the first week of Dec. But the information we collected has made us to think twice for a Dec trip to Japan. Points we are concerned are:

1. The temperature in Japan is very cold and not a best time to visit for someone who used to the tropical climate. But Dec being the being very cold, if I plan a trip to Tokyo and Kyoto, will it be enjoyable?

2. The seasonal influenza. Read the influenzas started earlier this year and will reach the peak.

Thanks for any insights and experiences.

1. Nobody knows your own body cold tolerance other than yourself… if scare cold then wear appropriate winter clothings… do layering… For me Dec Tokyo Japan is still not that cold… I only wear a shirt/jeans and jacket… not even any thermal pants/shirts… But if it is Dec Korea… I will wear long john and another 2 layers + scarf + gloves + ear muffs…

2. If scare influenza… go take flu shots… but even flu shots not 100% guaranteed safe… but will have milder symptoms if kenna… so if really scare then avoid cold countries… but influenza not limited to cold countries… Malaysia now also having flu outbreaks… my kids classes also many kenna liao…

Anyway… isn’t it a bit late to plan for early Dec trip now unless u are talking about next year Dec? Air tickets will be damn expensive and hotels also limited vacancies liao… most pple plan Japan trip at least 3-4 months in advance…

Tokyo can be cold and windy in Dec but it will be in festive mood with light ups at popular places. Just need to be well prepared with cold wear

Who is 'we'? Young kids, seniors? Wear appropriately and you'll be fine.

You can get flu in Singapore. Take the flu jab and take precautions, wear mask off you're still fearful. It's common there so don't need to feel weird.

December in Tokyo is great because of the winter illumination events.
