I think the only way to stop the haze is if we pay the Indonesian government hundreds of millions of dollars each year as the politicians are supporting the palm oil companies as they have a stake in these businesses. We need to pay them for our clean air so that slash and burn is no longer a financial incentive, there is no other way.

Years of attempting to fight fire when it starts or trying to 'crack down' have proven that this approach is a failure without addressing the politicians and economics driving slash and burn. Plus the Indonesian government probably only gives lip service on their attempts to stop these practices because they themselves have a stake in these palm companies. They merely try to 'control the fire', they do not address the root problems. We need alternatives.

I wonder why our government hasn't done this.
